Stock Futures Mixed as Tesla Rises 3%
Stock futures are mixed as Wall Street attempts to stabilize following a volatile week marked by hotter-than-expected inflation data and renewed concerns about the sustainability of AI-related investments. Technology stocks remain under pressure as investors question the debt financing and profitability underpinning the AI infrastructure boom.Despite the inflation surprise, Treasury yields are relatively steady after retreating Thursday, as comments from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh offered no clear signal of an imminent rate hike. Barclays Analyst Sees Increased Merger Potential Between Tesla and SpaceX
Barclays analyst Dan Levy believes an announced merger between Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX (SPCX) is possible before Tesla's annual meeting, which is likely to be held on December 6 at the latest. A deal has become widely expected by the market, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Barclays believes vertical integration and the ability to accelerate AI opportunities at both of Elon Musk's companies are supportive of a combination. While it is possible the timing of a merger announcement could slip later into October or perhaps even until early November, such timing may increasingly challenge merger approval as part of the annual meeting, the analyst contends.
