Lightbridge Selected for Nuclear Energy Launch Pad
Lightbridge announced that it has been selected to participate in the Nuclear Energy Launch Pad INL, administered by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Reactor Innovation Center at Idaho National Laboratory. Selection provides an accelerated pathway toward DOE authorization for Lightbridge to design, build, and operate a dedicated facility at INL to manufacture Lead Test Assemblies of Lightbridge Fuel - the company's proprietary metallic nuclear fuel - for testing in U.S. commercial power reactors. LTAs represent the final fuel qualification stage between reactor testing and commercial fuel sales. Lightbridge now has an accelerated pathway to establishing manufacturing capability for producing LTAs.
Lightbridge and Quadrant Sign HALEU Collaboration MoU
Lightbridge and Quadrant Nuclear Industries announced they have entered into a memorandum of understanding, or MoU, to establish a framework for collaboration on the long-term supply of high-assay low-enriched uranium, or HALEU, fuel. Under the agreement, Lightbridge and QNI will engage in discussions regarding the potential supply and long-term offtake of HALEU produced at QNI's planned Vanguard facility at Idaho National Laboratory.
Lightbridge Completes First Batch of Fuel Sample Irradiation
Lightbridge announced that the first batch of its fuel material samples undergoing irradiation at the Idaho National Laboratory's, or INL, advanced test reactor, or ATR, have been successfully removed and will now be cooled down over the next several months in preparation for post-irradiation examination, which is expected to begin later this year. The samples were removed on May 6 with Lightbridge's full-time fuel engineering team and senior management on site at INL for the milestone.
Lightbridge Participates in White House Nuclear Expansion Initiative Launch
Lightbridge participated in the White House launch of the Utility Power Reactor Incremental Scaling Effort, UPRISE, a federal initiative to expand U.S. nuclear capacity by maximizing output from the existing reactor fleet. The Company was represented by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Seth Grae at the event held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the White House complex in Washington, D.C. "UPRISE recognizes a straightforward reality: the fastest and most cost-effective megawatts we can add to the grid are the ones we draw from reactors already operating today," said Seth Grae, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lightbridge. "Lightbridge Fuel is being designed to deliver the greatest power uprates available to the existing pressurized water reactor fleet, and we were proud to take part in the launch of an initiative aimed squarely at that opportunity."
Lightbridge Partners with Studsvik to Develop New Fuel Design Software
Lightbridge and Studsvik Scandpower have entered into a partnership to develop an extension of the Studsvik CMS5 Core Management Suite to model the new Lightbridge Fuel design. Together, Lightbridge and Studsvik will provide the commercial nuclear sector with a software package for light water reactors that is fully supported by the Studsvik software already adopted by customers around the world.
