MiNK Therapeutics Secures ARPA-H Funding for Room Temperature Cell Therapy
MiNK Therapeutics announced that its clinical-stage agenT-797 iNKT platform has been selected as a therapeutic cell system within an Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health-funded team developing technologies intended to enable living cell therapies to be stored and transported at room temperature. The effort is part of ARPA-H's BioStabilization Systems program, a four-year initiative pursuing what the agency describes as a "200-degree leap" from cryogenic storage near -196 degrees C toward room-temperature storage near 21 degrees C. ARPA-H has committed up to $87M across the BoSS program to develop technologies designed to reduce dependence on cold-chain infrastructure and expand the reach of advanced biologic medicines.
MiNK Therapeutics Initial Observations Show Improvement with agenT-797
MiNK Therapeutics announced initial observations from patients treated with agenT-797 in its ongoing Phase 2 study in patients with severe hypoxemic pneumonia. The observations were presented at the 2026 Military Health System Research Symposium by Dr. Terese Hammond, M.D., a pulmonary critical care specialist and Head of Inflammatory and Pulmonary Diseases at MiNK and coauthored by delegates from First Lviv Territorial Medical Union in Lviv, Ukraine. Severe lung injury has high mortality and no approved therapy proven to reduce it. In conflict and austere settings, multidrug-resistant infections can render traditional antibiotic therapies ineffective and accelerate lung injury. agenT-797 is designed to restore barrier immunity and mitigate inflammatory lung damage. Initial reports: agenT-797-treated patients were alive, with substantially improved hemodynamics, mental status and oxygenation at Day 28. Microbiological data indicated control of the baseline infections and serum and bronchoalveolar lavage analyses showed reduced inflammatory markers and biological changes associated with immune recovery, epithelial repair and pulmonary vascular recovery. No major serious adverse events attributed to agenT-797 were reported in these first treated patients. "These initial patients entered the study with severe respiratory failure, complex infections and substantial medical risk," said Dr. Terese C. Hammond, M.D., Pulmonary Critical Care Physician and Head of Inflammatory Diseases of MiNK Therapeutics. "Following treatment, we observed encouraging signs of improvement in oxygenation, infection control and biological changes associated with reduced inflammation and increased production of cytokines associated with pulmonary tissue healing and repair. The biological changes are promising and appear consistent with our observations presented earlier this year at ASGCT and ATS."
MiNK Therapeutics Doses First Patient with agenT-797
MiNK Therapeutics announced that the first patient has been dosed in its randomized Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating agenT-797 with standard of care vs. placebo with SOC in patients with severe acute lung injury and critical illness.
MiNK Therapeutics Presents New Clinical Data
MiNK Therapeutics announced new clinical and translational data presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference 2026 and the simultaneous publication in Clinical Immunology Communications1 describing the use of sequential immunotherapy with MiNK's off-the-shelf iNKT cell therapy, agenT-797 and N-803, an IL-15 superagonist, in a critically ill patient with unresolving disseminated Coccidioides immitis infection, severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, and concurrent hospital-acquired Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia. The poster, titled 'Novel Invariant Natural Killer T Cell and Interleukin-15 Superagonist Combination Immunotherapy for Unresolving Coccidioides immitis Infection with Concurrent ARDS,' was presented by Terese C. Hammond, M.D., Head of Inflammatory and Pulmonary Diseases at MiNK Therapeutics, and describes a sequential immunotherapy regimen pairing agenT-797, MiNK's investigational off-the-shelf iNKT cell therapy, with Anktiva, an FDA-approved IL-15 superagonist developed by ImmunityBio, reflecting a combination strategy built on two clinically validated immune mechanisms. The patient was critically ill, facing a convergence of severe threats: disseminated Coccidioides immitis fungal infection, severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, and concurrent hospital-acquired Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial pneumonia, all after standard-of-care antifungal, antibacterial, and supportive therapies had failed to halt clinical decline. Following sequential treatment with Anktiva and agenT-797, investigators observed: Suppression of both fungal and bacterial pathogens; Active immune cell recruitment into the lung; Reduced early inflammatory signaling; Activation of tissue repair and immune regulatory pathways. Immune profiling revealed a coherent biological sequence: Anktiva triggered early immune activation, followed by agenT-797-driven changes consistent with iNKT cell engagement, pathogen control, and a transition from inflammation toward resolution and repair. The pattern suggests the treatment sequence may have helped restore coordinated immune function in a patient whose infection and respiratory failure had continued to progress despite intensive intervention. The patient's family ultimately pivoted to comfort care due to recurrent cardiac decompensation in the setting of pre-existing mitral valve disease, acute mitral regurgitation and cardiogenic shock. The authors further supported this rationale in the ATS poster presentation, when chest imaging, clinical data including real time pulmonary arterial catheter and cardiac echocardiography data augmented post-mortem cytokine and biomarker results to prioritize acute heart failure rather than cytokine release or infectious contributions as the most likely mechanism.
MiNK Therapeutics Initiates Phase 2 Trial for agenT-797
MiNK Therapeutics and First Lviv Territorial Medical Union announced the initiation of a randomized Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating agenT-797, MiNK's off-the-shelf allogeneic invariant natural killer T cell therapy, in patients with severe acute lung injury. The study has received authorization from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and is supported by an active U.S. IND.
