Momentus Selected by OQ Technology for 5G Mission
Momentus announced that OQ Technology has selected Momentus to fly its 5G Narrowband Internet of Things payload on the Company's Vigoride-9 mission, scheduled for launch in Q4 2027. "Diverse hosted payload missions continue to demonstrate the versatility of our Vigoride platform and our ability to support innovative commercial space applications," said John Rood, Chief Executive Officer of Momentus. "We look forward to working with OQ Technology as it expands its operational satellite communications network and delivers enhanced connectivity capabilities to customers around the world."
Momentus Awarded NASA Task Order for FFR Mission
Momentus announced that it has been awarded a task order by NASA for the formulation phase of the agency's Fly Foundational Robots, FFR, Resupply mission, a mission designed to advance the technologies needed for future in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing, ISAM. NASA selected Momentus as one of two participants to develop the mission's concept of operations, technical interfaces, and system design for the first FFR resupply mission. "This task order provides an opportunity for Momentus to demonstrate its capabilities in orbital transportation, spacecraft operations, and rendezvous mission design," said John Rood, Chief Executive Officer at Momentus. "The mission concepts being evaluated under the Fly Foundational Robots program align closely with our vision of enabling a sustainable in-space economy through transportation, servicing, and infrastructure solutions. We are excited to support NASA in developing capabilities that could become foundational to future commercial space operations."
Momentus Expands Commercial Business with ARCSPACE Contract
Momentus announced it has expanded its commercial business portfolio and entered into a contract with ARCSPACE. Momentus will host ARCSPACE's payload focused on space manufacturing through an autonomous in-space welding demonstration aboard the Vigoride-9 Orbital Service Vehicle, OSV, mission, currently projected to launch in 2027. The objective of the ARCSPACE payload is to validate its welding processes in the microgravity environment of low Earth orbit, and generate critical performance data that could support future ISAM operations. The mission will demonstrate autonomous welding operations and evaluate weld quality, process stability and operational performance in LEO conditions. These functions are critical to support repair, construction, and manufacturing activities on orbit.
Momentus Completes Proximity Operations Demo with NASA Satellite
Momentus announced the completion of a Rendezvous and Proximity Operations demonstration by its Vigoride-7 Orbital Service Vehicle utilizing low-cost commercial components for its sensor suite in a mission with a NASA satellite. The RPO demonstration showcased the Company's capabilities to integrate and operate this sensor suite, which produces the high-quality imagery necessary to support autonomous RPO in any lighting environment. "This demonstration highlights Momentus' ability to integrate and validate innovative commercial technologies, unlocking new capabilities for in-space transportation, servicing, and logistics," said John Rood, CEO. "We believe lower cost autonomous operations conducted at greater scale have significant potential to play a key role in supporting in-space operations like manufacturing, servicing, and habitation in the growing space economy." The demonstration was undertaken under the Company's contract with SpaceWERX, the innovation arm of the U.S. Space Force. This $1.86M contract was previously awarded to Momentus by SpaceWERX as part of its Space Maneuver Challenge competition. The effort included the on-orbit checkout and operation of a suite of commercial off-the-shelf sensors retrofitted and space-qualified for use in the low Earth orbit environment. Importantly, the suite demonstrated commercially viable sensing architecture for autonomous rendezvous and proximity operations.
Momentus Awarded NASA FALCON-Lidar Task Order
Momentus has been awarded a task order by NASA to support the competitive mission formulation phase of the Fleet for the Atmosphere Linking Commercial Observations with NASA-Lidar mission. NASA's FALCON-Lidar project is a part of the larger FALCON initiative that uses small satellites to study the Earth's atmosphere. The objective is to gather useful atmospheric science data faster and more cost-effectively by leveraging existing NASA-developed instruments on commercial satellite platforms instead of building a dedicated NASA satellite. Momentus will provide a range of services, including its specialized proprietary technologies, to perform the work supporting the FALCON-Lidar mission formulation phase. The work done in this formulation phase is intended to provide a foundation for NASA to determine a potential follow-on contract to build and fly a satellite supporting instruments to conduct a comprehensive atmospheric study. The Momentus facility in San Jose, California is leading this work.
