Deep Fission Signs Energy Purchase Agreement with GDPA
Deep Fission announced a Master Energy Purchase Agreement with the Great Plains Development Authority, GDPA, a quasi-municipal entity that owns the Great Plains Industrial Park in Parsons, Kansas. It converts the parties' December 2025 letter of intent into a definitive contract for a commercial project at the site of Deep Fission's Department of Energy, DOE, pilot. The agreement binds Deep Fission to pursue the project and to supply power once licensed and operating, subject to the agreement's terms and conditions. Under the agreement GPDA will purchase electricity generated and made available by Deep Fission to satisfy the electricity requirements of industrial park tenants, up to the contracted capacity, with no minimum purchase obligation. The agreement also permits GPDA to assign its purchase obligations to qualifying tenants.
Deep Fission Partners with Youngquist Brothers to Evaluate Drilling Technologies
Deep Fission announced a collaboration with Youngquist Brothers to evaluate and test drilling technologies for Deep Fission's underground reactor deployment model. Under the collaboration, the companies will advance and test methods for constructing large-diameter, deep boreholes for Deep Fission's underground deployment model, drawing on Youngquist's drilling and borehole-construction expertise. On September 3, the companies successfully completed a related equipment demonstration in Fort Myers, Florida, where Deep Fission lowered and retrieved its 30-inch full-size prototype reactor canister into a 34-inch borehole, to a depth of approximately 100 feet using Youngquist's proprietary drilling technologies & equipment. The demonstration scale test focused on installation and retrieval mechanics, distinct from the full-depth drilling work intended to be covered by the collaboration. The companies intend to continue working together on borehole drilling and testing as Deep Fission advances toward commercial deployment, which the Company is targeting as early as 2027.
Deep Fission Releases Nuclear Safety Design Agreement for Gravity Reactor
Deep Fission announced the public release of its Nuclear Safety Design Agreement for the Gravity Nuclear Reactor. The U.S. Department of Energy approved the NSDA as part of the Company's Reactor Pilot Program taking place in Parsons, Kansas. The NSDA establishes the safety framework that will guide continued development of the reactor. It reflects the agreement reached between DOE and Deep Fission on applicable design requirements, the planned safety analysis approach, and the regulatory engagement process that will govern the project. Public release of the document isn't required; Deep Fission is choosing to publish it to give the public direct visibility into the safety framework behind its approach as development evolves. DOE's approval of the NSDA is the initial step in the safety review process for the Reactor Pilot Program. Addition documentation and reviews are required before potential DOE authorization for operations. The Gravity Reactor uses standard, low-enriched uranium fuel and pressurized water reactor technology with a 70-year operating history. Rather than relying on a large above-ground containment structure, the design places the reactor approximately one mile underground, where a hydrostatic column of water and the surrounding geology are designed to provide passive pressure control, cooling, and shielding. The NSDA was developed and approved under the DOE Reactor Pilot Program, established by Executive Order 14301, which authorizes DOE to approve the design, construction, and initial testing of pilot advanced reactors outside DOE national laboratories, with the NRC observing the process. Unlike a standalone criticality test, the Parsons pilot is designed with the intent that the same reactor unit Deep Fission installs and brings to criticality under DOE authorization could, subject to NRC licensing, transition to commercial power operation rather than being decommissioned once initial testing concludes.
Deep Fission Successfully Installs Prototype Reactor Canister
Deep Fission announced that it has successfully installed and retrieved a full-size prototype reactor canister from a borehole using standard commercial drilling equipment operated by a commercial drilling and rigging crew. Nothing about the demonstration required equipment that had to be invented, custom-built, or adapted for nuclear service. "The most important thing about this demonstration is what we did not have to do," said Liz Muller, CEO and Co-Founder of Deep Fission. "We did not have to develop new technology. We used a rig and rigging that is commercially available in the field today, and our reactor uses pressurized water technology that has been operating in the nuclear industry for decades. Our innovation is in how we put proven pieces together, not in inventing something that has never been built. That is the difference between a science project and something you can deploy."
