Anixa Biosciences Completes Dosing of Fifth Cohort in Clinical Trial
Anixa Biosciences has completed dosing of the fifth cohort in its ongoing Phase 1, dose-escalating, clinical trial evaluating its novel FSHR-targeted CAR-T therapy for recurrent ovarian cancer. The sixth cohort is expected to commence following a routine 30-day safety verification. The Phase 1 study is evaluating a novel CAR-T therapy targeting follicle stimulating hormone receptor, which is expressed on ovarian cancer cells but has limited expression in healthy tissues. The trial is designed to assess safety, tolerability, and preliminary signs of efficacy across escalating dose levels. To date, no dose-limiting toxicities have been observed across any cohort. As of this date, four patients in the study have surpassed one year of survival following treatment, with individual patients surviving approximately 28, 21, 17, and 17 months post-treatment, respectively. In addition, the first patient treated in the fifth dose cohort exhibited stable disease 90 days after treatment. The company believes these outcomes are notable in a highly pre-treated, recurrent ovarian cancer population that has progressed after multiple prior lines of therapy and limited treatment options and poor prognosis. Anixa holds an exclusive world-wide license to the technology from The Wistar Institute.
Anixa Biosciences CAR-T Therapy Shows First Patient Stable Disease
Anixa Biosciences announced that a patient in its ongoing Phase 1, dose-escalating, clinical trial evaluating its novel FSHR-targeted CAR-T therapy for recurrent ovarian cancer, exhibited stable disease 90 days after treatment. This represents the first such response in Anixa's CAR-T cell therapy trial. Correlative studies evaluating presence and durability of CAR positive cells are ongoing. The patient was treated in the fifth dose cohort and received a dose of 110 CAR-positive cells per kilogram of body weight following lymphodepletion, representing the highest dose level evaluated to date in the study. To date, no dose-limiting toxicities have been observed in any patients.
Anixa Biosciences Treats Second Patient in Clinical Trial
Anixa Biosciences announced that the second patient has been treated in the fifth cohort of its ongoing Phase 1, dose-escalating, clinical trial evaluating its novel FSHR-targeted CAR-T therapy for recurrent ovarian cancer. The study is being conducted at Moffitt Cancer Center.
Anixa Biosciences Secures Patent for Breast Cancer Vaccine in Australia
Anixa Biosciences announced that IP Australia has issued Patent Number 2020221280 related to Anixa's breast cancer vaccine technology, exclusively licensed from Cleveland Clinic. This composition-of-matter patent protects the company's novel approach to breast cancer prevention and treatment in Australia through 2040, addressing a disease for which no preventive vaccine is currently approved anywhere in the world. The patent is titled, "Vaccine Adjuvants and Formulations," and the co-inventors are Dr. Justin Johnson and the late Dr. Vincent Tuohy, both of Cleveland Clinic.
Anixa Biosciences Secures New Patent in Australia
Anixa Biosciences announced that IP Australia has issued a Notice of Acceptance for a new patent related to Anixa's breast cancer vaccine technology. This patent, exclusively licensed from Cleveland Clinic, will provide protection for the company's novel approach to breast cancer treatment and prevention in Australia. The Australian patent complements patents issued in the U.S. and other key global jurisdictions, including Europe, China, and Japan, among others, and represents an important step toward potential future regulatory approvals and commercialization efforts outside the U.S. In a recently completed Phase 1 trial, at Cleveland Clinic and funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, the vaccine met all major primary endpoints, was safe and well tolerated, and generated protocol defined immune responses in more than 74% of participants.
