BWX Technologies Enters Multi-Year Agreement with Antares Nuclear
BWX Technologies announced that its BWXT Advanced Fuels subsidiary has entered into a multi-year commercial agreement with Antares Nuclear, establishing a framework for production of tri-structural isotropic, TRISO, nuclear fuel. The agreement includes terms for an initial allocation of 1 MTU, with the ability to increase as deployment requirements evolve to support Antares' advanced reactor program. The fuel will be manufactured at BWXT's Lynchburg, Virginia, facility, on the same TRISO fabrication line used to produce fuel for the Department of War's Project Pele and Antares' Mark-0 reactors. The agreement builds on BWXT's existing relationship with Antares and supports its progression from reactor demonstration to initial production deployments. Earlier this year, BWXT-produced fuel supported Antares' Mark-0 criticality milestone.
BWX Technologies Awarded Contract Worth Approximately $189M
BWX Technologies announced the award of a contract totaling approximately $189M for the manufacture of naval nuclear reactor fuel. Under this contract, BWXT subsidiary Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc., located in Erwin, Tennessee, will manufacture and deliver fuel for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BWXT fuel and reactors power the U.S. Navy's Ohio, Virginia, Seawolf, Los Angeles and Columbia-class submarines, as well as the Nimitz and Ford-class aircraft carriers. Work under this contract is scheduled for completion in August 2027.
