Meridian Bank's Net Interest Margin Rises to 3.77%
Net interest margin was 3.77%, up 8 basis points from prior quarter. Christopher Annas, Chairman and CEO commented: "The Meridian team delivered a solid third quarter and strong net interest margin. Loan balances are generally flat nine months to date, but we actually booked $363 million over the period in lines of credit and term loans. Balances have been impacted partly by strategic paydowns in leasing and SBA, which totaled $43 million for the nine months, as well as competition from PE firms. The wealth group grew quarterly pre-tax income by 35% over the third quarter of 2025 due to higher AUM, better efficiencies, and a good referral pipeline from our commercial group. Our mortgage group had a down third quarter, which is historically the most productive, as closed loans declined 27% from the prior quarter. Low housing inventory is dogging the industry with higher rates having a lesser impact. Mortgage's quarterly pre-tax loss of $1.6 million included a non-operating $955 thousand loss on a small portfolio of mortgage loans that are fair-valued quarterly. We continue to make mortgage cost adjustments to align with volume. We remain intensely focused on resolving non-performing loans without incurring elevated charge-offs. We had improvements in the third quarter, but this takes time and should result in stronger recoveries. We have strengthened our treasury and payments teams with experienced industry professionals in a concentrated effort to improve our deposit franchise and expect this to yield good results in 2027. Our ROA and ROE ratios remain strong despite some headwinds, and we look forward to improvement in the coming year."
Net Income Reaches $7.2M in Q4 2025
Net income for the quarter ended December 31, 2025 was $7.2M, or 61c per diluted share, up $527,000, or 8%, from prior quarter. Pre-provision net revenue for the quarter was $12.6M, an improvement of $1.4M, or 13% from Q4'2024. Net interest margin was 3.77% for the fourth quarter of 2025, while the loan yield declined to 7.15%, and cost of funds declined to 3.23% from the prior quarter. Total assets at December 31, 2025 were $2.6B, compared to $2.5B at September 30, 2025 and $2.4B at December 31, 2024.
Meridian Corporation Declares Quarterly Cash Dividend of 14 Cents
Meridian Corporation reported the board of directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of 14c per common share, payable February 17 to shareholders of record as of February 9. This is an increase of 1.5c or 12%, compared to the quarterly cash dividend of 12.5c per common share declared in the prior quarter. Christopher Annas, Chairman and CEO commented: "Meridian's fourth quarter earnings grew 7.9% over the prior quarter, to $7.2 million. Annual earnings grew 33.6% over 2024 to $21.8 million. Year-over-year growth of our core commercial, industrial, and real estate loan portfolios equaled 10.7%, driven mostly through new and existing loan relationships, and despite SBA loan sales and a $25 million residential mortgage sale to reallocate to commercial. The exceptional loan growth has been sustainable over the years due to targeted lending hires, training new candidates and devising new ways to capitalize on market disruption."
Meridian Bank reports Q2 EPS 49c vs. 30c last year
Reports Q2 revenue $11.1M vs. $7.1M last year. Q2 net interest margin was 3.54% vs. 3.46% in Q1. Tangible book value per common share was $15.44 from $15.06 at previous quarter end. CEO Christopher Annas commented: "Meridian's Q2 earnings of $5.6M were substantially above Q1, benefiting from improving margin, SBA loan sales and mortgage seasonality. PPNR was up 33% over the same period, reflecting overall healthy growth in our business units and good expense control. Loan growth was 2.5% for the quarter but was negatively impacted by a large SBA loan sale and the planned paydowns in our lease group. We continue to forecast loan growth in the 8-10% range for the year. Management is intensely focused on reducing the nonperforming loans, historically high for us, but negotiations and lengthy court schedules will slow the process...Our principal Philadelphia metro market is healthy and vibrant, and we have not yet seen the impact of economic uncertainties. We are excited about our market penetration in all segments, and believe this will propel us to greater performance."
Meridian Bank reports Q4 EPS 49c vs 42c last year
Christopher Annas, Chairman and CEO commented: "Our fourth quarter earnings showed significant improvement from the third quarter, increasing by 18.1% to $5.6 million, or $0.49 per share. For the year, net income increased 23.4% to $16.3 million, and $1.45 per share. While we are pleased with the improvement, we are still working through the drastic rate shock brought on by the Fed, particularly in our net interest margin which is down 50 basis points from 2019 levels. The team is working diligently each day to return to historical spreads."
