Jefferies: Gen Digital's Acquisition of GoDaddy Could Be Largest Deal
After the Financial Times reported that Gen Digital (GEN) has made a preliminary takeover approach to GoDaddy (GDDY), Jefferies noted that such a deal would represent the company's largest since its formation via the merger of NortonLifeLock and Avast. The strategic rationale is "a bit confusing," but Gen Digital "deserves the benefit of the doubt given strong M&A track record," says the analyst, who has a Hold rating and $30 price target on Gen Digital shares.
StoneX Reiterates Buy on GoDaddy with $140 Price Target
StoneX reiterates a Buy rating on GoDaddy (GDDY) with a $140 price target after the Financial Times reported that Gen Digital (GEN) has made a preliminary takeover approach. The strategic logic of a potential deal "is clear," the analyst tells investors in a research note. The firm believes GoDaddy's user base and domains would give Gen a "ready-made distribution channel for its security and identity products." The key constraint to a deal is Gen's balance sheet, which carries $8B of net debt, contends StoneX. Against GoDaddy's own $3.8B of debt, any deal would likely need a meaningful equity component, adds the firm. Shares of GoDaddy are up 5% to $100.78 while Gen is down 10% to $23.74 in afternoon trading.
