In an exclusive interview, Niagen Bioscience'sCFO Ozan Pamir spoke with The Fly about the company's evolving NAD focused strategy, the stability of its core business, and how its expanding ventures are shaping what comes next for the longevity platform.THE COMPANY:Niagen Bioscience describes itself as an NAD‑focused health and therapeutics platform, spanning consumer wellness, pharmaceutical development, telehealth, and clinical‑grade injectables. Although the company is widely known for its consumer business, that wasn't the original strategic goal."This has always been our strategy — not to be just a consumer product company," the executive explained to The Fly. "We happened to start our business in that area."The company is currently advancing its lead pharmaceutical candidate, NB4168, while also expanding into telehealth and pharmaceutical‑grade NAD+ injectables such as Niagen Plus IV, launched in 2024. Through its telehealth platform, patients can now access at‑home Niagen injections.Niagen Bioscience is also developing NAD‑based skincare, noting that NAD declines in the skin just as it does throughout the body."We see ourselves as an NAD platform, with the core business funding these other initiatives," the executive said. "It's a significantly de‑risked business model."RESEARCH AND NEW INITIATIVES:Niagen has been highlighting its growing leadership in NAD+ science, supported by several recent research findings the team finds particularly compelling."There are a couple of research pieces that came out very recently," the executive told The Fly. One study examined the impact of Niagen alongside high‑intensity interval training. "HIIT essentially ages your muscle tissue, whereas Niagen has counter‑benefits," he explained, noting the potential synergy for athletes and the broader sports‑performance community.The company also pointed to new skincare research published by a company owned by Estée Lauder. These studies evaluated Niagen in skin cells and showed that it elevates NAD+, reinforcing the company's expansion into NAD‑based dermatology.On the pharmaceutical side, Niagen Bioscience continues advancing its lead molecule NB4168. "We're going through preclinical and efficacy studies this year, and I expect we'll have a first‑in‑human study next year," the executive said.TELEHEALTH:The company sees telehealth as an increasingly central part of the longevity and metabolic‑health ecosystem."Telehealth has already become a very big component in the longevity space," Pamir told The Fly. He pointed to companies offering GLP‑1 therapies, which have made patients far more comfortable with self‑injection as a routine part of care."In our case, we see telehealth as another efficient way to deliver NAD to the body and elevate NAD levels," he said, noting that the company views NAD as one of the core pillars of longevity.Telehealth also removes barriers that traditionally limit access. "If you were to get an IV, you'd need to go to a clinic and spend about 30 minutes in a chair — you don't have to do that anymore," he explained. At‑home Niagen injections through Niagen's telehealth platform make the therapy more convenient and accessible for a broader population.LONGEVITY MARKET:Niagen believes its strongest differentiator in the crowded longevity space is the depth of scientific evidence behind Niagen and its broader NAD+ platform."Everything we do at Niagen is backed by science," the executive explained. "We now have around 500 published studies around Niagen — nothing else in the supplement industry comes close."He emphasized that this scientific foundation extends across both the consumer and telehealth sides of the business, with more studies underway. One key distinction, he noted, is the mechanistic difference between NAD+ and Niagen."We're in the NAD space — NAD is the co‑enzyme we're trying to elevate in everyone's body. But there is no science showing you can inject NAD and elevate NAD levels in tissues." In contrast, he said, "those 500 studies show that Niagen elevates NAD levels because Niagen is a precursor to NAD. It's the only precursor that can enter the cell directly and be converted into NAD."NAD+ itself, he explained, is too large and structurally constrained to enter cells. "It's mechanistically impossible." That makes Niagen's cellular accessibility — and its ability to raise NAD+ — a core competitive advantage."If you see NAD as a core tenet of longevity, which we do, then you have to take Niagen over anything else," he said.WHAT'S NEXT:Looking ahead, Niagen Bioscience sees its future shaped by the strength of its core business and the optionality created by its newer ventures."We have this core business that is stable and cash‑flow generating, without any dilution risk — something you don't typically see in companies with the kind of optionality we have," the executive told The Fly. "We have similar optionality to a biotech, but we fund that research ourselves."That structure gives the company multiple paths forward. "If one area doesn't work for some reason, we're still generating significant value from the core business," he said.Telehealth is one of those emerging opportunities. "It's essentially a startup business right now, but we have very high expectations for its future," he noted, calling it an important new avenue for shareholders.Skincare represents another. "We're approaching skincare the same way we approached supplements — selling the ingredient and also developing our own products. Niagen Bioscience Selects Evotec to Support NB4168 Development
Niagen Bioscience (NAGE) announced that it has selected Evotec (EVO) as a contract research organization to support the advancement of NB4168. The work will be conducted in collaboration with NAD Pharmaceuticals, Niagen Bioscience's wholly owned subsidiary focused on developing therapies for accelerated aging and rare genetic diseases. Under the collaboration, Evotec will conduct pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies and validate bioanalytical methods to further characterize NB4168 and support Niagen Bioscience's preclinical and Investigational New Drug-enabling development activities. NB4168 is Niagen Bioscience's proprietary oral small-molecule candidate initially developed for Ataxia Telangiectasia, a rare pediatric genetic disease with no approved treatments.
Niagen Bioscience Publishes New Study Analysis
Niagen Bioscience announced the publication of a new peer-reviewed analysis of past clinical studies in Aging Cell examining the effects of Niagen supplementation was associated with reduced muscle epigenetic age acceleration measured by the Muscle Epigenetic Age Test, MEAT, clock. In addition, changes in muscle mitochondrial DNA content correlated with changes in MEAT-derived epigenetic age acceleration, suggesting a potential relationship between mitochondrial adaptations and epigenetic clock measures.
