AT&T Inc is currently not a strong buy due to its recent performance and market pressures. The current price is $22.18, with a significant RSI of 15.61 indicating oversold conditions. However, the stock has dropped 8.72% over the last five days and 14.89% over the last 20 days, reflecting investor concerns about increased competition from SpaceX. While analysts maintain a positive outlook with price targets ranging from $28 to $30, the immediate risk is the competitive landscape, particularly the impact of SpaceX's spectrum acquisition, which has led to a 9.81% drop in shares recently. Therefore, it may be prudent to hold rather than buy at this time.

Elon Musk's SpaceX is making moves again, and it reportedly wiped out more than $36 billion in market value across the three major U.S. telecom giants. Recently, SpaceX reached an agreement with Grain Management to acquire its 800 MHz low-band spectrum nationwide, moving into the U.S. mobile carrier business. This is similar to China Mobile and China Telecom, and Musk will now also be running a phone number business. As a result, on the last trading day, the three major carriers lost about $36 billion to $39 billion in combined market value. T-Mobile closed down 13.2%, hitting a nearly 33-month low, while AT&T and Verizon each fell about 9% to 10%. That said, objectively speaking, even if SPCX scales its telecom business to the same size as Verizon, Verizon's market cap is only around $100 billion, so the upside for SPCX's $2.2 trillion market cap is still limited. So SPCX is undoubtedly a good company, but the market has also given it a very high premium, at $2.2 trillion, which seems a bit too high. Also, a reminder that SPCX will have share unlocks in October, November, and December, so there may be some selling pressure in the market, and we should keep a close eye on it.

$T I would love to see Starlink take business from the incumbent carriers. I can’t imagine it happens on a timeline that makes these stocks a sale at these levels. But at the same time, they have underperformed the S&P on a total return basis for decades. “But the dividend, I need the income.” No, you need total return.
