Origin Agritech Enters Patent Licensing Agreement with Shandong for Cas-SF01
Origin Agritech announced it has entered into a patent license agreement with Shandong Shunfeng Biotechnology for the Cas-SF01 gene editing tool. This collaboration grants Origin long-term access to fully IP-protected gene editing technologies, providing a solid foundation for the Company's future research and development in trait gene editing. It also aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced gene editing technologies in corn breeding, marking a significant milestone in Origin's efforts to develop high-density, high-yield, and adaptable corn varieties. Origin Agritech has initiated the biosafety assessment process for the edited lines. Additionally, this license agreement provides a substantial advantage by facilitating biosafety approval for Origin's current and future gene editing transformants utilizing Hi-3 one-step gene-editing method, for some of which the Company has already applied. The Company estimates obtaining final biosafety certification will require 1-2 years due to regulatory procedures and experimental timelines. Origin is committed to advancing this process and accelerating the commercialization of its gene editing innovations.
Origin Agritech Reveals Significant Achievements
Origin Agritech announced a series of major milestones designed to enhance its operational capabilities, strengthen its market position, and advance its long-term growth strategy. Origin Agritech has received a new crop seed production and operation license from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, authorizing the Company to produce, process, package, wholesale, and retail corn seeds. This license represents a significant step forward in expanding Origin's production capacity and operational infrastructure. With this approval, Origin now holds two crop seed production and operation licenses in China -the other being held by its subsidiary Xinjiang OriginBio Seed Limited - enabling a broader regional footprint and greater revenue diversification across complementary markets. Additionally, the Beijing Tongzhou District Market Supervision Administration has formally approved the inclusion of genetically modified crop seed production in the Company's business scope. In parallel, Origin has increased the registered capital of its subsidiary Beijing Origin Seed from RMB 30M, or $4.2M, to RMB 100M, or $14M. The Company has also completed a strategic restructuring, consolidating its key production and sales entities - including Xinjiang Originbo Seed Limited - under Beijing Origin. This integration establishes Beijing Origin as the Company's primary operational hub, enhancing efficiency and supporting future scalability.
