US Treasury Yields Rise, Dow Drops Over 700 Points
The sugar high of US Treasury's "put" to stem the rapid rise in longer-dated yields on Wednesday has worn off, sending those maturities higher and indices sharply lower across the board. Dow Industrials shed over 700 points, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite ended the day near their lows, while small-cap Russell 2000 index fell back below 3,000 for the first time in two weeks. There were few places to hide even in the more defensive areas of the market, with Consumer Staples dragged down by the 9% post-earnings retreat in shares of Walmartand the recently outperforming Healthcare giving back some of those gains. Tech was also mixed as strength in memory stocks was offset by selling in Infrastructure Software. In the opening hour of the evening session, panic is dialed down - S&P e-minis and Nasdaq 100 contracts are up 0.1%. In commodities, WTI Crude Oil is still bid above $86 per barrel. while precious metals remain supported by a bout of USD weakness - Gold is above $4,585 and Silver has advanced above $68 per ounce.Check out this evening's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER AFTER EARNINGS -Ross Storesup 8.1%ALSO HIGHER -Spotify Technologyup 1.3% after boosting share buybackDOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Flux Powerdown 20.6%Flowers Foodsdown 4.2%OSI Systemsdown 3.7%ALSO LOWER -Aveanna Healthcaredown 9.3% after equity offeringNewcelX Ltd.down 5.0% after selling stock for holders
