Kemper Q2 Revenue at $1.09B, Below Consensus
Reports Q2 revenue $1.09B, consensus $1.21B. Kemper Appoints Eric Kappler as EVP and President, P&C
Kemper announced that Eric Kappler has joined the company as Executive Vice President and President, P&C, effective July 30. Eric Kappler In this role, Kappler will lead Kemper's unified P&C organization, including specialty personal and commercial vehicle lines, and P&C claims operations. He will report to Stephen J. McAnena, Kemper's President and CEO. Kappler succeeds Matthew Hunton, who has left the company. Most recently, he served as President of Bristol West Insurance.
Kemper Executives Granted Restricted Stock Awards
Effective June 1, 2026, Stephen McAnena, President and CEO, was granted an award of restricted stock units with respect to 27,945 shares of Kemper Corporation's common stock, an award of stock options with respect to 111,777 shares of Common Stock, and an award of performance stock units with respect to 83,833 shares of Common Stock at target. The restricted stock units and stock options are scheduled to vest in three equal increments on each of the first three anniversaries of the grant date, generally subject to McAnena's continued employment through each vesting date. The performance stock units provide a target number of shares of Common Stock that may be earned over a three-year performance period based on achievement with respect to various financial metrics. Effective June 1, 2026, Kelly Coomer, Executive Vice President, Chief Information Officer, was granted an award of restricted stock units with respect to 43,913 shares of Common Stock. These restricted stock units are scheduled to vest in three equal increments on each of the first three anniversaries of the grant date, generally subject to Coomer's continued employment through each vesting date.
Kemper Appoints Stephen McAnena as CEO
Kemper Corporation (KMPR) announced the appointment of Stephen McAnena as President and CEO, effective June 1. McAnena will also join Kemper's Board of Directors. Interim CEO, C. Thomas Evans, Jr., will return to his role as Kemper's Executive Vice President, Secretary, and General Counsel. Most recently, McAnena served as Executive Vice President and COO at Horace Mann (HMN). Kemper also announced the appointment of Anthony DeSantis to its Board of Directors, effective June 1. He has held senior leadership roles at various insurers including American Family, The General, Farmers, and AIG, among others.

"Our results this quarter reflect continued pressure in parts of the business, particularly California personal auto, while other areas of the portfolio are performing well and contributing positively," said C. Thomas Evans, Jr., Interim CEO. "This includes strong results in our commercial auto business and continued personal auto diversification into key markets like Florida and Texas. We are taking decisive actions across underwriting, claims, and expense to return the business to profitability and drive more consistent performance over time."
