Tech Weakness Weighs on S&P 500 and Nasdaq
Fragile sentiment in the tech space weighed on broader indices as S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite begin the final full week of August with a loss. Semiconductors and memory stocks were the hardest hit on Monday as investors digest capital return announcement from Samsunglate last week, fret about press reports that Nvidiahas flagged price hikes, and also position for Nvidia earnings, PCE inflation, and Fed Chair Wash speech at Jackson Hole this week. Technology and Industrials were the worst-performing sectors in the benchmark index. In turn, Consumer Defensive names outperformed, with traders rotating into discount retail giants that fell out of favor last week on disappointing results - Walmartwas up 2.7% and Costcowas up 2.5%. Credit Services was also strong as Visaand Mastercardboth gained over 3% on Monday.In the opening hour of the evening session index futures are a little changed - S&P e-minis and Nasdaq 100 contracts are just above 7,670 and 29,100 respectively. In commodities, WTI Crude Oil continues to trade in a narrow band in the mid-$80s. Herc Holdings Appoints Erik Olsson to Board of Directors
Herc Holdings announced the election of Erik Olsson, former CEO of Mobile Mini and RSC Holdings, to Herc Rentals' Board of Directors. Olsson will serve on the Board's audit committee. With this appointment, the Board will expand from eight to nine members.

Herc Rentals Reports Q2 Revenue of $1.20B, Beating Expectations
Reports Q2 revenue $1.20B, consensus $1.13B. "After successfully completing the H&E integration in Q1, Q2 marked an important turning point for Herc Rentals, with our key metrics improving on a combined, comparable basis, both sequentially and year-over-year," said CEO Larry Silber. "Revenue synergies and cost synergies are tracking to plan. And while fuel inflation was a macroeconomic headwind in the quarter, we are taking additional actions to mitigate its impact...Our growth continues to be led by national accounts, fueled by robust mega project activity and a higher mix of specialty equipment rentals," said Silber. "The H&E acquisition was well-timed, adding the scale, fleet capacity, talent and branch density to expand our role on large, complex projects and capture a greater share of this accelerating demand. The momentum across multi-year projects gives us strong line of sight into the second half of the year. To support this expanding pipeline, we are raising our full-year financial guidance and increasing net fleet capital expenditures to serve customer demand," Silber added.

"The first quarter of 2026 marked a defining milestone for Herc Rentals as we successfully completed the integration of our H&E acquisition - the largest in the history of our industry - and we are already capturing the strategic benefits we anticipated: 25% more specialty locations, a stronger and deeper sales network, expanded share in local and regional accounts, and greater density in top metropolitan markets, where construction activity is most resilient. Financial performance in the first quarter was in line with our expectations and seasonal trends. While we expect performance to build as we move through the second half of 2026, the value of this combination will be realized over our three-year synergy plan, and we are executing against that roadmap with confidence," said Larry Silber, CEO.
