Armata Receives $3.7M Non-Dilutive Funding for AP-SA02 Phase 3 Development
Armata Pharmaceuticals announced that it has received an additional $3.7M in non-dilutive funds from the U.S. Department of War to support activities associated with the Phase 3 development program for AP-SA02. Importantly, the $3.7M represents the first funding received specifically for Phase 3 execution pursuant to a previously announced DoW award, received through the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium and managed by the Naval Medical Research Command - Naval Advanced Medical Development with funding from the Defense Health Agency and Joint Warfighter Medical Research Program. This funding follows the $28.7M previously provided, bringing cumulative non-dilutive DoW funding under the award to approximately $32.4M and underscoring the U.S. government's continued interest in advancing the AP-SA02 program. Armata's lead clinical candidate, AP-SA02, is being developed as an adjunctive treatment for complicated Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia caused by methicillin-sensitive S. aureus or methicillin-resistant S. aureus. The additional funding will be used to support the Phase 3 clinical program for AP-SA02.
Armata Pharmaceuticals' AP-SA02 Receives FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation
Armata Pharmaceuticals announced that the U.S. FDA has granted Breakthrough Therapy designation to AP-SA02, the company's intravenously administered Staphylococcus aureus multi-phage product candidate, for adjunct treatment of complicated bacteremia caused by methicillin-sensitive S. aureus or methicillin-resistant S. aureus. Breakthrough Therapy designation is intended to expedite the review of medicines that treat a serious or life-threatening condition and have shown preliminary clinical evidence indicating the potential for substantial improvement over available therapies.
Armata Pharmaceuticals Publishes New Paper in Journal of Molecular Biology
Armata Pharmaceuticals announced a paper in the Journal of Molecular Biology, a peer-reviewed journal. The publication, titled "Insights into Genome Ejection by a Therapeutic phiKMV-like Bacteriophage," presents an integrative structural atlas of Ar-KM, a phiKMV-like bacteriophage that targets Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the pathogen addressed by Armata's AP-PA02 program. AP-PA02 is an inhaled bacteriophage product candidate that has completed Phase 2 clinical studies in both cystic fibrosis and non-CF bronchiectasis patients with chronic pulmonary P. aeruginosa infection. Using cryo-electron microscopy, proteomics, and bioinformatics, the researchers captured three distinct states of the phage particle from a single purified preparation and built atomic models for eleven structural proteins at near-atomic resolution. The work explains how Ar-KM keeps its genome securely packaged before infection, identifies an enzyme activity that helps the phage penetrate the bacterial cell envelope, and characterizes a previously unrecognized protein that enables the coordinated release and delivery of the genome into the bacterium.
Armata Pharmaceuticals Advances AP-SA02 Clinical Study
Armata Pharmaceuticals announced significant clinical, regulatory, manufacturing and operational progress supporting advancement of AP-SA02, the Company's intravenously administered Staphylococcus aureus multi-phage product candidate, toward a planned Phase 3 superiority study for adjunct treatment of complicated bacteremia caused by methicillin-sensitive S. aureus or methicillin-resistant S. aureus. Recent milestones include submission of the complete Phase 3 protocol and comprehensive responses to all comments received from the FDA following the Company's End-of-Phase 2, or EOP2, meeting, and completion of key manufacturing activities supporting Phase 3 readiness. Collectively, these milestones support the Company's planned initiation of its pivotal Phase 3 superiority study in the second half of 2026, designed to support a future Biologics License Application for AP-SA02. The $2.5M announced on June 23 is a continuation of the previously announced award from the U.S. Department of Defense bringing total funding received to date under this award to $28.7M. These additional $2.5M funds are intended to support activities related to Armata's continued preparation and readiness for its planned Phase 3 clinical study. The Company is in close communication with its partners at the DoD regarding potential new support, including for the execution of the planned Phase 3 clinical study. Separate from the existing or any new DoD award, the Company continues to pursue and evaluate other funding pathways to support the execution of the planned Phase 3 clinical study.
Armata Appoints David House as CFO
Armata announced the promotion of David House to CFO. House has served as the Company's Senior Vice President, Finance and Principal Financial Officer since August 2024. The appointment ensures Armata has the right financial leadership in place to execute on its strategy and advance its clinical programs through late-stage development.
