Company Net Interest Margin Increases to 3.96%
Net interest margin increased to 3.96%, an increase of 24 basis points from 3.72% for the fourth quarter of 2025. Yield on loans increased to 5.73%, an increase of 19 basis points from 5.54% for the fourth quarter of 2025. Bryan McDonald, President and CEO of the company, commented, "We successfully closed our strategic acquisition of Olympic Bancorp during the first quarter. This acquisition provides us with a stronger market position in the Puget Sound region, and has contributed to our improved profitability and net interest margin in the quarter. We are on track to complete the system conversion by the end of the third quarter 2026 at which time we will begin to recognize further cost savings, which aligns with our original timeline."
Q4 Net Interest Margin Increases to 3.72%, Net Interest Income Grows 8.6%
Q4 net interest margin increased to 3.72%, an increase of 8 basis points from 3.64% for Q3. Tangible book value per share was $19.98 from $19.46 last quarter end. Common equity tier 1 capital ratio was 12.7% vs. 12.4% last quarter. CEO Bryan McDonald commented, "We are very pleased with our operating results for Q4, which included stronger profitability, deposit growth, margin expansion and lower cost of deposits. The improvement in net interest margin provided an 8.6% increase in net interest income over fourth quarter 2024 levels. This quarter showed the strength of our quality banking franchise with 29% growth in adjusted diluted earnings per share from the same period in the prior year. We remain focused on generating long-term financial results for our shareholders. We are also pleased with the progress made in completing the pending acquisition of Olympic and its subsidiary, Kitsap Bank. Having received both regulatory and shareholder approvals, we look forward to closing the transaction at the end of January and bringing together our two organizations."
Heritage Financial Receives Regulatory Approvals for Olympic Bancorp Merger
Heritage Financial announced that it has received all regulatory approvals required to complete the previously announced merger of Olympic Bancorp with and into Heritage and the merger of Kitsap Bank with and into Heritage Bank. Heritage expects the transaction to close on or about January 31, 2026, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including the receipt of shareholder approval by the shareholders of both Heritage and Olympic. "We are pleased to have received the necessary regulatory approvals as this is an important step towards integrating a successful merger. Kitsap Bank's relationship banking strategy nicely compliments Heritage's strategies. This combination will create a more robust banking platform for communities across the Puget Sound region," said Bryan McDonald, Heritage President and CEO.
Heritage Financial announces Q3 earnings per share of 55 cents, matching expectations.
Reports Q3 net interest margin up 13 basis points to 3.64% from 3.51% during Q2. Tangible book value per share was $19.46 from $18.99 last quarter. Common equity tier 1 capital ratio was 12.4% from 12.2% last quarter. Bryan McDonald, CEO, commented, "We are pleased with the continued growth in core earnings driven by our margin expansion as loan yields continue to expand and our deposits costs are decreasing. Net interest income increased 8.3% from the same quarter of 2024. The growth in core deposits has allowed us to reduce borrowings by $245M, or 64%, in 2025 year to date, which further strengthened our net interest margin in the quarter. Of course, we are excited about the pending acquisition of Olympic Bancorp and its subsidiary, Kitsap Bank. This acquisition will further enhance the strength of our balance sheet and improve our profitability. We look forward to closing the transaction in Q1 2026."
Heritage Financial set to purchase Olympic Bancorp
Heritage Financial, the holding company for Heritage Bank, and Olympic Bancorp, the holding company for Kitsap Bank, "jointly announced the signing of a definitive agreement under which Heritage will acquire Olympic in an all-stock transaction. Kitsap Bank, established in 1908, is a privately owned community bank headquartered in Port Orchard with 17 banking offices and $1.7 billion in total assets, $941.6 million in total loans and $1.4 billion in total deposits as of June 30, 2025. On a combined basis following the transaction, Heritage will have total assets of approximately $8.8 billion, total loans of approximately $5.7 billion and total deposits of approximately $7.2 billion."
