3M and Amazon Web Services Expand Strategic Collaboration

3M (MMM) and Amazon Web Services (AMZN) announced an expanded strategic collaboration. AWS plans to deploy and scale 3M's Expanded Beam Optical platform for its data center infrastructure. "The collaboration and related investments are expected to strengthen the U.S. economy by supporting more than 500 jobs directly and indirectly, including the creation of more than 100 new roles through 2027 across Minnesota, Texas and Wisconsin. These planned roles will support customer co-innovation, technology advancement and supply chain development across 3M's optical networking portfolio and help accelerate industrywide adoption through collaboration with partners. 3M expects to contribute nearly $0.5B to the U.S. economy through its optical connectivity business. This investment will accelerate innovation in optical networking and fiber termination, enable commercialization at scale and drive adoption across the data center industry," 3M stated. "AWS's adoption of 3M's EBO platform demonstrates the potential of our optical connectivity technology to meet the performance demands of next-generation data center infrastructure. By combining AWS's infrastructure expertise and scale with 3M's innovation and materials science capabilities, we can accelerate EBO deployment, advance our transformation and strengthen U.S. innovation and investment," said Wendy Bauer, Group President of 3M's Transportation and Electronics Business Group.

U.S. 10-Year Treasury Yield Falls to Near One-Month Lows

The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury note fell on Tuesday, hovering near one-month lows, following weaker housing data while investors also continued to assess persistent inflationary pressures ahead of the Fed's interest rate decision next week. Housing starts fell 5.2% in September, while pending home sales dropped to a record low, reflecting the continued strain of elevated mortgage rates on housing demand. The Fed is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged next week, while markets anticipate a 25 basis point rate hike in December. Meanwhile, crude oil prices moved lower and stocks turned higher following an unconfirmed report from Qatari newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that Qatar and Pakistan presented a mediation proposal to address the demands of the U.S. and Iran.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1.
