Summit Therapeutics and Lunit Sign Research Agreement
Summit Therapeutics and Lunit announced a research agreement to evaluate the use of Lunit SCOPE IO, Lunit's AI-powered pathology platform, for tumor microenvironment analysis in support of Summit's immuno-oncology development programs with ivonescimab. The effort will focus on applying Lunit SCOPE IO to hematoxylin and eosin-stained whole-slide images to characterize tumor microenvironment features. The companies aim to explore how AI-powered pathology analysis can support biomarker discovery, patient stratification or selection, and a deeper biological understanding of response to ivonescimab therapies. Summit is developing ivonescimab, a novel, potential first-in-class investigational PD-1 / VEGF bispecific antibody, in several solid tumors. Lunit SCOPE IO is designed to support immuno-oncology research and biomarker development through AI-powered analysis of H&E slides, enabling scalable assessment of tumor microenvironment features without requiring additional stains or assays. "Understanding the tumor microenvironment is increasingly important as immuno-oncology moves beyond single-axis checkpoint inhibition toward more complex mechanisms and combinations," said Allen Yang, MD, PhD, Chief Research and Development Strategy Officer of Summit. "We are pleased to work with Lunit to explore how AI-powered pathology can help generate deeper, more scalable insights from routine tissue samples and inform the continued development of ivonescimab."
Summit Therapeutics Collaborates with ECOG-ACRIN on Biliary Tract Cancer Trial
Summit Therapeutics announced a clinical trial collaboration with the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group to evaluate ivonescimab, a novel, potential first-in-class investigational bispecific antibody, in a registration-enabling Phase II/III study in biliary tract cancer. The new study, EA2251, is designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ivonescimab with chemotherapy compared to pembrolizumab or durvalumab plus chemotherapy in the first-line treatment of patients with advanced BTC. The open-label Phase II/III EA2251 study plans to enroll patients in the U.S. who will be randomized to receive ivonescimab in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin, or pembrolizumab or durvalumab in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin as the established standard-of-care comparator regimen. The primary endpoint for the study is overall survival. Activation of clinical trial sites is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Summit Therapeutics Initiates Ivonescimab Clinical Trial
Summit Therapeutics (SMMT) announced the initiation and opening of clinical trial sites of a multiregional Phase II study of ivonescimab, a novel, potential first-in-class investigational PD-1 / VEGF bispecific antibody, in previously untreated advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma. The study is being conducted in collaboration with Summit's partner, Akeso (AKESF). SMT112-216 is a randomized, open-label Phase II clinical study designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of multiple ivonescimab-based treatment approaches in patients with incurable locally advanced or metastatic ccRCC who have not received prior systemic therapy for advanced disease. The study plans to enroll approximately 100 patients at clinical trial sites in the U.S. and China. Participants will be randomized to receive ivonescimab in combination with cadonilimab, ivonescimab in combination with ipilimumab, ivonescimab monotherapy, or nivolumab plus ipilimumab as an established standard-of-care comparator regimen.
Summit Therapeutics Closes $2B Investment from AstraZeneca
Summit Therapeutics (SMMT) announced the successful closing of AstraZeneca's (AZN) strategic equity investment in Summit. The equity investment will support continued acceleration of the development of ivonescimab, a novel, potential first-in-class investigational PD-1 / VEGF bispecific antibody. Pursuant to the terms of the Securities Purchase Agreement entered into by Summit and AstraZeneca, AstraZeneca purchased an aggregate of approximately 108,955 shares of preferred stock convertible into shares of common stock of Summit at a 1:1,000 ratio.
