Rocket Lab Successfully Launches Electron Rocket for HawkEye 360
Rocket Lab (RKLB) launched its Electron rocket to deliver a dedicated mission to space for HawkEye 360 (HAWK). The 'We're Not Hawking Around' mission launched from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand at 8:11 p.m. NZDT on October 23, to deliver three HAWK satellites to a 520km low Earth orbit. Operating in tri-satellite formation, HawkEye 360's satellites collect signal data from across the radio frequency spectrum for maritime tracking, GNSS jamming detection, radar monitoring, communications mapping, and space defense.
ViaSat Successfully Launches Maxwell Spacecraft, Advancing NASA Communications Services Project
ViaSat (VSAT) announced it has advanced the company's demonstration mission for NASA's Communications Services Project with the successful launch of the Maxwell spacecraft from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on October 20 during the Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission with SpaceX (SPCX). This on-orbit demonstration mission is a key milestone in Viasat's work developing innovative space-based communication services under two Communications Services Project contract awards totaling $81M. Viasat's government space team will now proceed with on-orbit testing and demonstrations that will take place over five months through March 2027. Rocket Lab (RKLB) built the Maxwell spacecraft at its Long Beach, California, facility. "Yesterday's launch represents the culmination of years of innovation, engineering and collaboration across Viasat, NASA and our industry partners," said John Reeves, vice president of space and mission systems at Viasat.
