$CHYM Chime has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Stride Bank, N.A. for $590M in cash. Stride has served as Chime's banking partner for over seven years. After the deal closes, Stride will become Chime Bank, N.A. and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Chime. Chris Britt, CEO and Co-founder of Chime, said the company's member-focused, technology-driven approach will stay the same, and the acquisition is expected to strengthen their model by combining Chime's brand and member relationships with Stride's national charter and team. The transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings per share immediately upon closing. Chime anticipates over $100M in net synergies from sponsor bank fee savings, expanded lending products, and a lower cost of funds. The deal values Stride at approximately 1.5x tangible book value. Chime plans to fund the purchase with cash on hand, with no additional capital contribution expected. After closing, Chime will consolidate its banking activities at Stride, which will focus on supporting Chime's consumer business. Chime expects to keep its assets below $10 billion for the foreseeable future. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Both companies' boards have unanimously approved the deal.
