#Anthropic's profit growth is slowing. The competitive landscape has already begun to shift. In the next phase, AI companies will move from "burning cash to scale first" to focusing on whether the money burned can be recovered faster. Anthropic's Q3 revenue reached $16.8 billion, up about 46% quarter over quarter, while also achieving adjusted profitability and positive cash flow. The problem is that growth has clearly slowed: monthly growth has dropped from double digits to single digits, and its goal of reaching a $100 billion annualized revenue run rate by year-end also seems quite challenging [3]. The market is starting to use different measures. In the past, the market focused more on user numbers, token usage, and annualized revenue. Now, a series of more realistic questions has emerged: How much revenue does each dollar of compute investment generate? If API prices are cut, can increased usage make up for the revenue loss? Will enterprise customers continue to renew? Can operating profit and free cash flow improve? Therefore, the real signal Anthropic is sending this time is: achieving adjusted profitability in a single quarter is only the entry ticket; growth quality is the key to valuation. Different companies face different pressures. Independent model companies are under the most pressure. Training, inference, R&D, and customer acquisition all require funding, while open-source models are pushing API prices lower. Increased usage does not necessarily mean increased profit. Large platforms have more room to maneuver. They can integrate AI into cloud services, advertising, office software, and e-commerce, so their models do not necessarily have to be profitable on their own. Alibaba's AI cloud and computing services generated RMB 48.44 billion in revenue this quarter, with adjusted EBITA of RMB 5.63 billion, indicating that some cloud and computing businesses have already begun to contribute profit. How the situation will change next. Expansion will continue, but project selection will be stricter. High-cost, low-paying general-purpose applications will face pressure, while enterprise-level coding, workflow automation, industry models, and cloud computing will be more favored by capital. Financing will also become more difficult, and investors will pay closer attention to cash recovery speed, not just the scale of the story. In one sentence: the AI industry has not stopped burning cash; it is shifting from "who burns the most" to "who burns most effectively."
