Super Micro Computer (SMCI) announced the appointment of Mark Long as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Charles Liang, effective immediately. Long previously served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Strategy Officer of Western Digital (WDC)
Evercore ISI: Seagate and Western Digital Have Structural Advantage in TDK Heads Business Competition
After Bloomberg reported that Seagate (STX) and Toshiba are competing for TDK's magnetic-heads business, Evercore ISI noted that while Seagate and Western Digital (WDC) both vertically integrate their heads, Toshiba is completely reliant on TDK. Seagate and Western Digital's vertical integration is "a structural advantage" in controlling technology ramps, manufacturing execution and cost per terabyte, says the analyst, who adds that the reported TDK discussions "strengthen the strategic case for upstream control."
Nasdaq Hits Record Highs, S&P 500 Up 0.7%
Broad-based strength in the mega-cap tech space - in spite of continued upward pressure in Treasury yields - helped the Nasdaq Composite to fresh record highs on Monday and also lifted S&P 500 by 0.7%.
