Cigna's Evernorth Health Allocates $3.5 Billion to Shields Health Solutions

Evernorth Health Services, a subsidiary of The Cigna Group (CI), announced a $3.5B investment in Shields Health Solutions, a specialty pharmacy management company. Evernorth's investment coincides with Shields' establishment as a private standalone company upon its acquisition by Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm based in New York. This follows Sycamore's acquisition of Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), Shields' previous owner, which closed on August 28, 2025. Evernorth's investment in Shields is in the form of preferred stock and is not expected to have a material impact to The Cigna Group's previously issued 2025 adjusted EPS guidance of at least $29.60.

Nasdaq Projects August 27 as Final Trading Day for Walgreens Boots Alliance

At a special meeting held on July 11, the shareholders of Walgreens Boots Alliance approved the proposed merger with and into Blazing Star Parent, Nasdaq noted. "The merger is tentatively scheduled to close prior to the market open on August 28, 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. In anticipation of the closing, the stock will be halted immediately following the after-hours session at or around 7:50 p.m. on August 27, 2025. If the merger closes as anticipated, the stock will remain halted on the day of closing (August 28th) and will be suspended effective August 29," a notice posted to the site of Nasdaq stated.
