Cloudflare Launches Basin Data Platform to Simplify Application Development

Cloudflare announced Cloudflare Basin, a data platform that gives developers and enterprises a simpler, more affordable way to build applications powered by their own data. Built on Apache Iceberg and Cloudflare R2, Basin gives teams an open, serverless way to ingest, store, catalog and query analytical data across the tools they already use. With Basin, customers can: Own their data, not just access It: Data is stored in Apache Iceberg, an open, industry-standard format, so teams can analyze it with any compatible tool and are never locked into a single vendor. Skip the server setup: Basin runs on Cloudflare's global network which allows developers to ingest, store, and query data in seconds without provisioning or managing infrastructure. Eliminate data transfer fees: Querying data using tools from different clouds, platforms, or regions carries no transfer fees.

Cloudflare Announces Intent to Become Public Certificate Authority

Cloudflare announced its intent to become a public Certificate Authority, an open service that issues the digital certificates websites need to encrypt traffic and prove their identity to visitors. The new CA will support both traditional encryption and next-generation post-quantum Merkle Tree Certificates, giving every website a path to stay protected as computing power advances-with no new tools or rebuilds required. Additionally, Cloudflare has agreed to acquire established, publicly trusted Root CA key material from GlobalSign, which will provide ubiquity across the global Web PKI ecosystem. Every secure website depends on a certificate authority to verify its identity and enable encrypted connections. Today, that trust is concentrated in a small number of dominant issuers, creating systemic risk if any one of them fails or is compromised. At the same time, most certificate infrastructure was built before quantum computing became a practical concern. Quantum computers capable of breaking today's encryption are expected within years, and much of the web is not prepared for that shift.
