JetBlue Board Members Jesse Lynn and Steven Miller Depart

JetBlue announced that two members of its board of directors, Jesse Lynn and Steven Miller, will be departing the board. The departures, which are effective immediately, are according to the terms of the agreement with Icahn Enterprises L.P. disclosed in 2024, which requires a minimum beneficial ownership of the company's outstanding shares to maintain representation on the board. Carl Icahn said: "We appreciate the constructive partnership with JetBlue over the years as they have reshaped the airline and we look forward to seeing them continue to successfully execute the JetForward strategy." After the departures, the JetBlue board will be comprised of 11 members, ten of whom are independent.

ICE Steps Up Enforcement at Airports, Airlines Push Back

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, officers are ramping up their immigration enforcement efforts at U.S. airports, but airlines are pushing back, Andrew Tangel, Michelle Hackman, and Alison Sider of The Wall Street Journal reports. In late July, an ICE officer tried to board a Southwest Airlines (LUV) flight in Dallas to make an arrest, but the airline did not allow the officer to board the plane, according to documents reviewed by the Journal. There are nearly six other similar encounters with Southwest during the last few weeks, a person familiar with the matter told the Journal. While ICE has made some arrests at airports in the last year, the agency has increased its enforcement. Top leaders have told officers to make arrests at Transport Security Administration checkpoints when they can, but many believe this directive has not been consistently followed at airports, sources added. Arrests now involve people with expired visas, but with a form of legal status pending, such as a green card or asylum application.
