Major Indices Bounce Back, Industrials and Financials Lead Gains
Investor sentiment was constructive for the second consecutive session on Thursday as major indices bounced sharply, with the biggest gains in the benchmark coming from the Industrials and Financials sectors. More Fed-speak was among the major highlights for the session - Fed Governor Waller was much more reserved regarding confronting inflation than Fed Chair Warsh was on Friday, pointing to recent data which he believes suggests the economy is "finally seeing some signs of disinflation". The more measured approach by the FOMC voter was reflected in repriced expectations for policy decision later this month, reducing the probability of a 25 basis point hike to 50% from 63% yesterday. The speech also impacted the Treasury market across the curve, with yields sliding 3-4 basis points. Pundits were quick to point out however that incoming economic data - including Friday's key August non-farm payroll figures - will continue to impact expectations. In the opening hour of the evening session, index futures are a little changed, with S&P e-minis above 7,750 and NASDAQ 100 above 29,500. In commodities, Energy markets remain strained by the ongoing geopolitical concerns in the Middle East, with WTI crude oil just shy of $92 per barrel. In metals, Gold was back above $4,500 per ounce as US Dollar was sold heavily across the major currency pairs.Check out this evening's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER AFTER EARNINGS -American Outdoor Brandsup 24.4%Samsaraup 15.7%Torrid Holdingsup 12.1%Planet Labs PBCup 4.3%DocuSignup 3.9%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -lululemon athleticadown 18.3%Oxford Industriesdown 15.8%Guidewire Softwaredown 15.3%Domodown 13.2%Asanadown 12.4%UiPathdown 7.5%Zscalerdown 1.3%
