Tegna and Disney Sign Multi-Year Agreement

Tegna (NXST) and Disney Entertainment Television (DIS) announced that they have entered into a comprehensive, multi-year deal that renews station affiliation agreements for all of Tegna's ABC-affiliated stations. "Our partnership with Disney Entertainment Television offers viewers an incredible programming lineup that includes the NFL, NBA, SEC football and shows like 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'Grey's Anatomy,' anchored by strong local news their communities depend on. "We're excited to extend this long-standing agreement," said Patrick Paolini, CEO, Tegna.

Nexstar Partners with DAZN to Broadcast Pacers Games

Nexstar Media Group and DAZN announced a partnership that will bring 15 regular season Pacers games to fans across Central Indiana on Nexstar television stations. Each game will be simulcast on local television and streamed for free on DAZN, enabling fans to watch the same live broadcast whether they choose to tune in over-the-air, through a television provider, or on a connected device.

FCC Repeals 39% National TV Ownership Rule, TV Stocks Rise

The Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal its 39% national television multiple ownership rule and replace it with a case-by-case review. "This will empower the FCC to approve deals that promote the public interest while allowing the agency to reject any deals that do not meet that standard. Through today's action, the Commission exercises its authority to modify the FCC rule for the first time in over 20 years and align it with current market realities," the agency said in a statement. TV station owners are moving higher following the vote, with Nexstar (NXST) up 3% to $194.03, E.W. Scripps (SSP) up 10% to $3.15, Sinclair (SBGI) up 13% to $15.76, and Gray Media (GTN) up 4% to $4.51.

"In a record second quarter, Nexstar generated all-time high quarterly revenue driven by our acquisition of TEGNA Inc., strong political advertising revenue, incremental advertising revenue from highly rated FIFA World Cup events on our FOX-affiliated stations and continued streaming advertising revenue growth in Nexstar's legacy local markets. During the quarter, NewsNation maintained its position as the fastest-growing ad-supported cable news network in prime time and total day viewership. At the same time, The CW accelerated its transformative evolution through distribution partnerships with ESPN and Roku, which will expand The CW's reach to new streaming audiences. Looking forward, we are well positioned for strong free cash flow generation in the second half of 2026 and we remain confident that the case challenging our acquisition of TEGNA is without merit and we will continue to vigorously defend it."
