JPMorgan Considers Launching Its Own Stablecoin

Banks large and small have started to warm up to the idea of their own stablecoins, despite early doubts from some executives that there will be much demand for them, as non-bank companies like Visa (V), BlackRock (BLK), Google (GOOGL), and DoorDash (DASH) enter the market, The Wall Street Journal's Gina Heeb and Vicky Ge Huang report. JPMorgan (JPM) recently evaluated whether it could launch its own stablecoin, according to people familiar with the matter. The largest U.S. bank already has a tokenized deposit called JPM Coin and its own blockchain. A group of more than a dozen financial institutions including Bank of America (BAC), Wells Fargo (WFC) and Santander (SAN) has been moving forward on a stablecoin venture that would reach across the globe, according to people familiar with the matter.

SEC Issues Subpoenas to AI Hedge Fund Situational Awareness

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has issued subpoenas to lenders that handled AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness' calamitous trading and provided it with borrowed funds to supersize its bets, the New York Times' Rob Copeland and Matthew Goldstein report, citing three people briefed on the outreach. The subpoenas requested information on the timing of the fund's trades and for its communications with banks about the money it was borrowing, the authors say, noting that the subpoenas also warned the banks to preserve any information regarding the fund. At its zenith, the hedge fund managed over $30B, borrowed tens of billions more, and was a major client of big banks Bank of America (BAC), Citi (C), Goldman Sachs (GS), and JPMorgan (JPM), the report adds.

Major Averages Rise as Investors Tackle Yield Volatility

The major averages were broadly higher, ending the week on a high note as investors attempt to shake off a yield-driven selloff.Long-dated Treasury yields surged this week amid concerns about rising government debt, financing needs and persistent inflation, with the 30-year yield earlier reaching its highest level since 2007. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the government could further expand its Treasury repurchases after this week's intervention, but yields remain near recent highs and investors remain concerned that buybacks do not address the underlying deficit and debt outlook.Meanwhile, oil and geopolitics are adding to inflation concerns. Diplomatic progress with Iran remains limited, while the U.S. is threatening tougher economic measures and Middle Eastern supply disruptions continue to support crude prices. That leaves investors weighing the prospect of renewed energy-driven inflation just as they are trying to determine the Federal Reserve's next move.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1.
