InterDigital Wins Preliminary Injunction Against TCL in Brazil
InterDigital announced it has been awarded a preliminary injunction against TCL by a court in Brazil related to HEVC technology. The 3rd Business Court of the Judicial District of the Capital of Rio de Janeiro adopted the findings of an independent expert report, commissioned by the Rio court, which fully supported InterDigital's position that TCL infringes the two patents-in-suit, that the patents are essential to the HEVC standard and that InterDigital's offers met its fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory obligations. In finding that InterDigital had complied with its FRAND obligations, the court noted TCL's offers were lower by "a different order of magnitude". Under the court's ruling, TCL must refrain from implementing the HEVC standard in devices they manufacture, import or offer for sale in Brazil. "InterDigital is widely recognized as one of the leading contributors to the HEVC codec which has become such a vital part of how video content is encoded and then decoded on devices like TCL's," commented Josh Schmidt, Chief Legal Officer, InterDigital. "We welcome the Rio court's decision and call on TCL to take a license, like its competitors, that fairly values our portfolio."

InterDigital Secures Injunction Against Disney in Europe
InterDigital (IDCC) announced that it has been awarded another injunction against Disney (DIS) by a court in Europe. The Dusseldorf Local Division of the Unified Patent Court ruled that InterDigital is entitled to an injunction over Disney's infringement of an InterDigital patent covering technology which allows users to enjoy seamless viewing when sharing video content between different devices; the court also confirmed the validity of this patent. The injunction against Disney covers Germany and the Netherlands. Disney can appeal the decision. The judgment from the Dusseldorf court is the third injunction that InterDigital has received from the UPC against Disney; the two previous injunctions both covered patents related to certain video encoding techniques related to HEVC. The UPC is a pan-European patent court which issues decisions that apply across multiple countries in the European Union. Outside of the UPC, InterDigital has been awarded injunctions from national courts in Germany and Brazil for Disney's infringement of InterDigital's intellectual property related to high dynamic range technology, the dynamic overlaying of multiple video streams, and additional encoding technologies related to HEVC and AVC.
