Infleqtion Awarded $20M NASA Contract

Welcome to the latest edition of "Quantum Leap" where The Fly decodes news and activity in the quantum computing space.QUANTUM-SAFE SECURITY:Arqit Quantum, Es'hailSat and Advanced International Electronic Equipment Company announced the demonstration of quantum-safe security across operational satellite communications infrastructure. The company said, "The collaboration demonstrates a practical way for satellite operators and critical infrastructure providers to strengthen communications resilience in the face of emerging quantum threats, without interrupting live operations. As governments and infrastructure operators prepare for the cybersecurity implications of quantum computing, protecting long-life communications infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. This is particularly relevant in sectors where reliability and operational continuity are critical." The demonstration showed how quantum-safe cryptographic protection can be introduced across existing satellite-connected networks with no adverse effect to existing systems, services or operational performance. "Satellite infrastructure supports some of the world's most operationally sensitive environments," said Andy Leaver, CEO of Arqit. "What's important about this project is that it proves a practical path to strengthening quantum-safe cryptographic resilience without requiring operators to rebuild existing infrastructure. That operational reality matters especially in critical infrastructure environments, where disruption simply isn't an option."QUANTUM COMPUTER IN DATA CENTER:Diraq and Equinixannounced plans to deploy a Diraq quantum computer at an Equinix data center in Sydney, Australia. The deployment will mark the first silicon spin quantum computer to operate in a shared commercial data center. The installed quantum computer will feature a silicon chip containing eight quantum bits, or qubits, with all cryogenic cooling and control electronics self-contained. The complete system fits within Equinix's existing data center alongside standard servers and drawing less than 20kW of power. "Quantum computers are about to become as essential to data centers and computing infrastructure as data servers, CPUs and GPUs," said Andrew Dzurak, Diraq founder and CEO. "The data center is where quantum computing goes mainstream, and that shift starts now. It's a first, and the milestone is in the simplicity itself. Diraq's quantum computers integrate into operational data centers like any other rack. That's the advantage of Diraq's silicon spin qubits: as we scale to millions of qubits, our system is deployable anywhere in the world, right next to the AI systems that are reshaping the global economy."SEALQUANTUM:Sealsqhighlighted the investment and commercialization strategy behind SEALQUANTUM, its initiative to build a sovereign quantum vertical stack connecting complementary technologies across the quantum economy. Sealsq believes the quantum industry is entering a decisive new phase. The company said, "After years of substantial investment in quantum research, processors, semiconductors, photonics, communications and cybersecurity, the industry's next phase is increasingly about industrialization, integration and monetization. SEALQUANTUM has been designed around this opportunity. Rather than viewing quantum companies exclusively as standalone entities, Sealsq intends to build an interconnected industrial ecosystem in which investments and strategic partnerships can combine together on technology integration, commercial agreements, customers and revenues across the Stack. A central component of this strategy is Sealsq's direct investment in pure-play quantum computing companies, including: Quobly: an investment of €15 million. EeroQ: an investment of $7.0 million. Together, these represent approximately $24.5M of strategic exposure to two differentiated pure-play quantum computing architectures, based on Sealsq's current investment values. This pure-play quantum exposure sits within Sealsq's broader SEALQUANTUM Sovereign Vertical Stack, for which Sealsq has announced a target allocation of its own capital of $200M with the goal of accelerating the development of a fully-integrated Quantum Vertical Sovereign Stack across quantum and post-quantum technologies."NASA CONTRACT:Infleqtionannounced NASA has awarded the company a $20M follow-on contract to continue development of the Quantum Gravity Gradiometer Pathfinder, QGGPf, a mission led by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, JPL. The award brings NASA's investment in the program to $40M and advances the mission into its next phase of hardware development and testing. "This follow-on award reflects the progress our team has made and marks an important step toward the mission's next phase," said Matt Kinsella, CEO of Infleqtion. "The path from quantum science to a system that can fly in space takes years of engineering, testing, and collaboration. Every milestone brings quantum sensing closer to enabling entirely new ways to observe our planet from orbit." The QGGPf mission is designed to demonstrate quantum sensor technologies that could transform how Earth's surface gravity is measured from space. As a technology pathfinder, the mission is expected to help inform the design of future science-grade instruments.
