Mehr anzeigenAs global bond yields continue to climb, Morgan Stanley believes the bond market is already doing part of the tightening work the Fed would otherwise need to achieve through policy rates, which may in turn help ease pressure on stocks. Mike Wilson, Morgan Stanley's chief U.S. equity strategist, said the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield has risen about 120 basis points since February, marking a clear tightening in financial conditions. If this market-driven tightening is enough to slow the economy, the Fed may not need to control demand through further policy rate hikes in the future. Wilson believes investors should focus on two key indicators: financial sector performance and bond market volatility. If September CPI comes in mild and bond market pressure eases, the Fed may gain more room to observe, and the stock market may also see a broader foundation for gains.
