Insteel Closes Ohio Facility, Lays Off 65 Employees
Insteel Industries announced that it will close its facility in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and move manufacturing requirements to the company's remaining welded wire reinforcement production facilities, which have ample open capacity to accommodate additional volumes. The consolidation of the company's welded wire manufacturing operations is expected to result in the elimination of up to 65 positions at the Upper Sandusky facility. It is anticipated that operations at the Upper Sandusky facility will cease by the end of October 2026. Insteel expects to incur restructuring charges of approximately $4.6M related to the closure. "The consolidation of our welded wire facilities is an important step in positioning Insteel for long-term success by aligning our manufacturing footprint to customer demand, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening our cost competitiveness. We do not expect this action to affect the Company's revenue," said H.O. Woltz III, Insteel's President and CEO. "We understand the impact this decision has on our employees, and we are committed to providing support and assistance throughout the transition."
Company Reports Q3 Revenue of $197.7 Million
Reports Q3 revenue $197.7M vs. $179.9M last year. "The business environment remained supportive during the quarter, as shipment levels increased from the prior-year period," commented CEO H.O. Woltz III. "Customer sentiment remains positive and the level of activity in publicly funded infrastructure markets continues to be healthy. Private non-residential construction continues to be dominated by data center projects, some of which have experienced schedule delays. We believe these delays are timing-related and do not imply weakening demand. Profitability during the quarter was impacted by higher costs, as increases in wire rod prices, freight expense, and practically all other operating costs outpaced changes in selling prices. We believe these headwinds are temporary and expect to recover these higher costs through our pricing over time. Looking ahead, the fundamental drivers of demand across our markets remain intact, supported by the Company's recent investments, and resilience in publicly funded construction and infrastructure-related projects. While we continue to monitor developments related to raw material pricing, transportation costs and trade policy, we are focused on operating efficiently, maintaining strong customer relationships and executing our growth initiatives. We like the company's positioning as we move through the remainder of FY26."
Company Reports Q2 Revenue of $172.7M, Impacted by Winter Weather
Reports Q2 revenue $172.7M vs. $160.7M last year. "Winter weather affected most of our facilities and geographies during the quarter, limiting shipments as construction activity slowed and the supply chain experienced operational disruptions," commented CEO H.O. Woltz III. "Additionally, certain projects that had initially scheduled deliveries in Q2 were delayed until later in our fiscal year, unrelated to weather conditions. I should emphasize that these are delays rather than cancellations. We view these events as temporary and not indicative of underlying demand, which we continue to believe is healthy. If our assumption is correct, shipment levels should strengthen...Beyond the near-term effects of winter weather, broader market forces continue to shape our operating environment, particularly those tied to raw material availability and pricing, evolving U.S. trade policy, and ongoing geopolitical tension in the Middle East...we are comfortable with our market position that includes minimal direct import competition but we remain concerned by the disconnect between U.S. pricing for hot-rolled steel relative to the world market level. Inflationary conditions continue to adversely affect our cost profile... As we move forward, we will remain focused on disciplined pricing, operational efficiency, and maintaining strong relationships with our customers."
TSMC's Strong Outlook Boosts Tech Stocks, Futures Up Modestly
Stock futures are experiencing modest gains in early trading as optimism around a strong outlook from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing bolsters technology sentiment and lifts semiconductor and AI-related shares. This suggests investor risk appetite is returning after recent weaker sessions. Analysts note that TSMC's robust quarterly results and plans for expanded U.S. manufacturing have injected fresh confidence into the chip sector and could support broader tech leadership even as markets await further corporate earnings.Still, broader sentiment remains mixed and cautious after a two-day losing streak for major U.S. indexes, driven by profit-taking in technology shares and concerns around banking sector pressures, including regulatory risks and proposals on credit card rate caps that have weighed on financial stocks.Currency and bond markets have also shifted in response to these cross-currents, contributing to the broader risk-on yet cautious tone.In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures rose 0.49%, Nasdaq futures rose 1.07% and Dow futures slipped 0.07%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER -Penumbraup 13% after entering into a definitive agreement under which Boston Scientificwill acquire the company in a cash and stock transaction that values Penumbra at $374 per shareSpotifyup 1% after announcing that it is raising prices for premium subscriptionsUP AFTER EARNINGS -TSMCup 5%Insteelup 5%BlackRockup 2%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Morgan Stanleydown 1%Goldman Sachsdown 1%LOWER -Boston Scientificdown 4% after announcing its agreement to acquire PenumbraInstacartdown 5% after Uberand Krogerannounced the launch of nearly 2,700 stores on the Uber Eats, Uber, and Postmates apps
Insteel Reports Q1 Revenue of $159.9M
Reports Q1 revenue $159.9M vs. $129.72M last year. "Despite industry statistics that would indicate softening construction activity, our markets were resilient during our Q1 and shipment volumes held up," said CEO H.O. Woltz III. "Nonresidential construction remained a key demand driver, supported by infrastructure spending and data center activity. While residential markets remain soft, we are encouraged by early signs of stabilization. As anticipated, first quarter shipments reflected the typical seasonal slowdown, and margins were impacted by the consumption of higher-cost raw material inventories. While forecasters have raised questions surrounding future construction activity, we continue to experience positive customer sentiment and expect 2026 to offer solid opportunity for Insteel. The downward trajectory of interest rates, together with contributions from our recent investments, causes us to be optimistic about our prospects. With that said, we remain concerned about the significant steel price premium in the U.S. relative to the global market, and we expect finished products markets exposed to imports to remain highly competitive. As we have stated previously, only about 10% of our revenues are directly affected by import competition. Looking ahead, we are optimistic that Insteel is positioned for a year of strong performance."
