Creators of PHP Disclose Critical Security Vulnerability

The creators of PHP, a technology that powers as much as 70% of the world's websites, disclosed a critical security issue Wednesday that could be leveraged by hackers to take control of any system running its software, The Wall Street Journal's Robert McMillan writes. That would allow an attacker to steal information or launch a cyberattack on anyone visiting a hacked website, the author notes. Security researchers found the vulnerability using AI. Now web administrators are scrambling to protect themselves from the vulnerability, which cutting-edge AI systems could quickly exploit. Publicly traded companies in the space include Check Point (CHKP), CrowdStrike (CRWD), CyberArk (CYBR), F5 (FFIV), Fortinet (FTNT), Gen Digital (GEN), Okta (OKTA), Palo Alto Networks (PANW) and Qualys (QLYS).

Perplexity Opens SPACE AI Sandbox, Cybersecurity Stocks Drop

Shares of cybersecurity companies are moving lower after Semafor's Reed Albergotti reported that Perplexity is giving away SPACE, its AI sandbox used to combat rogue AI agents. SPACE is now an open source project, allowing outside developers to use the tool, and Perplexity has lined up CoreWeave (CRWV), Akamai (AKAM), and Crusoe to offer SPACE to customers, according to the report. Other companies like Nvidia (NVDA) have also released open-source security tools, such as Nvidia OpenShell, which runs AI agents in a sandbox and limits what they can reach, Albergotti says. F5 announced enhanced cloud-native network functions and new observability capabilities that help service providers modernize critical network services as they move from virtualized infrastructure to Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures. Service providers are under pressure to support growing 5G, edge, IT, and emerging AI workloads, boost efficiency, and maintain the performance, security, and operational control required for carrier-grade services. Moving network functions to Kubernetes lets operators use infrastructure more flexibly but also introduces additional requirements for traffic management, security, lifecycle operations, and visibility across increasingly distributed environments. F5 now accelerates this transition.
