U.S. 10-Year Treasury Yield Falls to Near One-Month Lows
The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury note fell on Tuesday, hovering near one-month lows, following weaker housing data while investors also continued to assess persistent inflationary pressures ahead of the Fed's interest rate decision next week. Housing starts fell 5.2% in September, while pending home sales dropped to a record low, reflecting the continued strain of elevated mortgage rates on housing demand. The Fed is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged next week, while markets anticipate a 25 basis point rate hike in December. Meanwhile, crude oil prices moved lower and stocks turned higher following an unconfirmed report from Qatari newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that Qatar and Pakistan presented a mediation proposal to address the demands of the U.S. and Iran.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1. Stocks Fall as Fed Raises Rates, S&P 500 Drops 0.45%
Stocks fell toward their lowest levels since July as the Federal Reserve signaled the possibility of further policy tightening after raising rates for the first time since 2023. Equities erased gains, with the S&P 500 dropping 0.45% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing over 1% after the Federal Open Market Committee voted unanimously to increase the benchmark rate to a range of 3.75% to 4%. The Fed's "dot plot" that signals members' view of the outlook for the path of monetary policy suggests one more hike may be coming this year.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1. Stocks Inch Higher as Markets Assess Rate Hike Impact
Stocks inched higher on Wednesday morning, pausing the week's pullback as markets assessed how the economy may fare against higher interest rates. The Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates by 25 basis points later today, although the summary of economic projections - or "dot plot" - is likely to show a fragmented FOMC as uncertain outlooks spark disagreements on policy and forward guidance. Hawkish concerns were further stoked with the release of strong retail sales and soaring import inflation figures this morning.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1. Borr Drilling Announces New Contracts and Operational Update
Borr Drilling provided an operational update on the Odin and announced new contract commitments. In the Americas, following mobilization offshore Texas in mid-August and subsequent acceptance testing, the Odin has commenced its contract and began earning dayrate revenues on September 11. In Southeast Asia, the Idun has been awarded a contract with an undisclosed operator in Vietnam. The three-well campaign, with an estimated duration of 130 days, is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026, in direct continuation of the rig's current contract. In Europe, ENI has exercised a nine-month option on the Bestla, extending the contract to September 2027. ENI maintains an additional fixed price option to extend the contract by a further nine months. The company is expected to assume operational management of the rig in the fourth quarter of 2026 following the completion of its bareboat charter with the prior owner.
Borr Drilling Divests 51% Stake in Mexico
Borr Drilling announced that it has entered into definitive agreements to divest its 51% equity interest in the Mexican joint ventures Perforaciones Estrategicas e Integrales Mexicana S.A. de C.V. and Perforaciones Estrategicas e Integrales Mexicana II, S.A. de C.V., or Perfomex, to its long-standing local partner in Mexico. Upon completion of the transaction, Borr Drilling will have fully divested Perfomex, while its local partner will become the sole owner of Perfomex and assume responsibility for the management and operation of the company's jack-up rigs Galar, Gersemi and Njord, which are currently operating with PEMEX. The company will retain ownership of the three rigs and continue participating in the underlying contracts through bareboat charter agreements, with economics expected to be largely unchanged from the existing arrangement. Njord is currently contracted through April 2028, with extension options thereafter, while Galar and Gersemi are contracted through May 2030. The transaction follows Borr Drilling's recent expansion in Mexico with the acquisition of five premium jack-up rigs, which the Company jointly owns through BC Ventures Limited, a 50/50 joint venture with its local partner. Following completion of the transaction, Perfomex will continue its operations related to integrated well services and PEMEX, while Borr Drilling will independently operate and market its fleet to other operators in the region through its affiliated companies. The transaction is expected to simplify Borr Drilling's corporate and operating structure in Mexico. The company believes the streamlined structure strengthens its local partnership, creates a more efficient platform for future growth in Mexico and supports the deployment of additional Borr rigs as demand develops in this well-established shallow-water market. Under the terms of the definitive agreements, a post-closing transition period is expected to facilitate the orderly transfer of operational responsibilities to Borr Drilling's local partner. The sale consideration for the transaction is based on the estimated net book value of the company's equity interest in Perfomex as of July 31. The transaction is expected to close in September, subject to customary closing conditions.
