Champion Safe Company Advances Utah Factory Transformation

Champion Safe Company announced that the major lean transformation of its Utah manufacturing operation is actively progressing, with the physical factory realignment announced in September now taking shape. The transformation represents a substantial reconfiguration of Champion's manufacturing floor around a more deliberate production flow. Equipment is being repositioned and the relationship between manufacturing operations is being reorganized as Champion works toward a factory layout intended to move steel, components and safes through production more efficiently. The work is a direct continuation of the initiative Champion announced September 23, when the company outlined plans to restructure the factory around lean manufacturing principles. That initiative is intended to increase throughput, reduce unnecessary movement and handling, lower unit costs, shorten manufacturing cycles, improve predictability and create a stronger platform for dealer fulfillment and future growth. "What we announced in September is now taking shape on the factory floor," said Tom Mihalek, CEO of Champion Safe Company. "This is a significant physical transformation of the operation, and we are making real progress toward the manufacturing environment we outlined. We are committed to following through on the changes we believe can make Champion a stronger and more efficient manufacturer."

Champion Safe Company Restructures Utah Manufacturing Operations

Champion Safe Company announced a major restructuring and physical realignment of its Utah manufacturing operation around lean manufacturing principles, representing a significant step forward in the company's drive to increase production efficiency, accelerate throughput and build a more scalable manufacturing platform. The factory realignment builds directly on Champion's July strategic growth capital investment, which was directed toward manufacturing, supplier commitments and fulfillment. The current initiative takes that investment deeper into day-to-day factory execution by improving how steel, components, work-in-process and finished products move through Champion's Utah manufacturing operation. The initiative is redesigning the way materials, components, employees, work-in-process and finished products move through Champion's factory. Rather than viewing manufacturing as a series of separate departments, Champion is restructuring the floor around a more efficient production flow intended to reduce unnecessary movement, waiting, handling and other non-value-added activity between manufacturing steps

Champion Collaborates with Retailers to Address Market Demand

The company said, "The four-day market brought Champion together with independently owned sporting goods retailers from across the country at a critical point in the retail calendar. With fall hunting seasons approaching and year-end business planning underway, the event gave Champion an opportunity to work directly with dealers on product assortment, customer demand, merchandising priorities and the issues affecting their businesses in local markets. Champion also used the market to discuss its continued focus on manufacturing execution and fulfillment. Following the company's recent strategic growth capital investment, additional resources have already been directed toward production, supplier continuity and operations to better serve existing dealer demand and support long-term growth."
