Transocean Secures $550 Million in Contracts
Transocean announced contract awards for two of its ultra-deepwater drillships in the U.S. Gulf. In aggregate, the fixtures represent approximately $550M in firm contract backlog. The Deepwater Proteus was awarded a ten-well contract with an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf. The estimated 700-day campaign is expected to contribute approximately $325M in backlog and commence in the first quarter of 2027 in direct continuation of the rig's current U.S. Gulf contract. The Deepwater Conqueror was awarded a five-well contract with an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf. The estimated 450 days of work is expected to contribute approximately $225M in backlog, excluding mobilization fees, and commence in the third quarter of 2027 in direct continuation of the rig's program in Equatorial Guinea.
Valaris and Transocean Merger Approved by Brazilian Regulators
Valaris (VAL) disclosed that on October 13, the Brazilian competition authorities issued a decision determining that the business combination Transocean (RIG) may be put into effect without restrictions. Valaris and Transocean expect this decision to be published in Brazil's Official Journal on October 15 or October 16, which will trigger the start of a 15 waiting period before the decision becomes final. Once CADE's decision becomes final, all regulatory approval conditions to the closing of the combination will be satisfied, the company added. Valaris and Transocean currently anticipate that the closing of the deal will occur in Q4.
Transocean Secures $62M New Contract
Transocean announced a new contract award representing approximately $62M in firm contract backlog and the formal approval of the previously announced Equinor agreement resulting in conversion of the $1B contract value to firm backlog. The Transocean Norge was awarded a two-well contract with A/S Norske Shell. The estimated 120 days of work is expected to commence in direct continuation of the rig's previously awarded programs in Norway and contribute approximately $62M in backlog, excluding additional services. The contract also includes one single-well option. In late September, final approval was received from Equinor for the previously announced agreement for three harsh environment semisubmersible rigs in Norway: Transocean Enabler, Transocean Encourage, and Transocean Endurance. The total contract value of approximately $1B is now included in Transocean's backlog.

The campaign is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027 and contribute approximately $300M in contract value, inclusive of additional services and mobilization fees. The contract includes two years of priced options that, if fully exercised, would result in the drillship working in India into early 2031.
