FHFA Director Proposes Eliminating Extra Mortgage Insurance

Shares of MGIC Investment (MTG), NMI Holdings (NMIH) and Essent Group (ESNT) have moved lower after Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte said in a series of posts on X: "If your Home is worth more, or you have paid the loan down far enough, you should be able to drop EXTRA Mortgage Insurance. Right now Fannie Mae will not let your loan company call and tell you that you may qualify because your home has gone up in value! You have to know to ask. Freddie Mac will let them call. That is crazy. We are fixing that. Fannie Mae will follow Freddie's rule: if you may qualify to drop unnecessary extra insurance because your home has gained value, they can contact you and walk you through how to cancel your PMI. You can stop paying for coverage you do not need and keep the money. ... The Mortgage Insurance Companies make incredible amounts of money and have truly unbelievable PROFIT percentages as a percentage of revenue. I am asking Mortgage Insurance Companies to allow savings for Consumers where proper and appropriate."

MGIC Investment Declares Quarterly Cash Dividend of 17 Cents

MGIC Investment announced that its board of directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of 17c per share, an increase of 13% from the last quarterly dividend paid of 15c per share. This quarter's dividend will be payable on August 20 to shareholders of record as of August 5.

MGIC Investment Approves $750M Share Repurchase Program

MGIC Investment announced its board has approved an additional share repurchase program with authorization to purchase up to $750M of its common stock at any time prior to December 31, 2028. The company also announced that its board declared a quarterly cash dividend of 15c per share payable on May 21, to shareholders of record as of May 6.

Reports Q4 revenue $298.65M, consensus $308.25M. Tim Mattke, CEO of MTG and Mortgage Guaranty Insurance said, "We closed 2025 on a strong note, once again delivering solid financial results and ending the year with more than $303 billion of insurance in-force. We continued to strengthen and add flexibility to our balance sheet, while at the same time returning a significant amount of capital to shareholders totaling $915 million during the year."
