T1 Energy Short Interest Soars to 35.5%
Welcome to this week's installment of "The Short Interest Report" - The Fly's weekly recap of short interest trends among some of the most widely followed high-short-float stocks. Using the data from our partner, which utilizes the latest information from stock lenders to estimate short interest changes for thousands of publicly traded companies, this report will screen for some of biggest changes in short interest as a percentage of free float and days-to-cover ratios while also considering the short interest data on some of the more volatile and heavier-traded names of the week. Based on the availability of data from Ortex, the report tracks the trading period that covers prior Friday through Thursday of this week, excluding holidays. As a basis of comparison for stocks discussed below, the S&P 500 index was up 1.2%, the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.7%, the Russell 2000 index was up 1.7%, the Russell 2000 Growth ETFwas up 2.2% and the Russell 2000 Value ETFwas up 1.3% in the five-day trading session range through August 13th.SHORT INTEREST GAINERSOrtex-reported short interest in T1 Energytroughed around 21% of free float on June 9 as traders took profits following the sharp upswing in the stock during the first week of June. Shares continued to fall through July, though short interest inflected higher as bearish positioning steadily rebuilt. This week, short interest spiked from 28.1% to 35.5% of free float, a record high. Days-to-cover also increased from 1.4 to 1.8 as short exposure climbed. The stock fell 14% in the five-day period covered through Thursday and is now down 24% year-to-date, with shorts continuing to press their bets amid the sustained weakness.Ortex-reported short interest in Campbell'stroughed at a three-month low of about 21% of free float on August 4 but rose briskly this week, climbing from 21.2% to 25.2%, a one-month high. The sharp increase signals renewed bearish positioning after short exposure had steadily eased into early August. Days-to-cover rose from 5.0 to 6.0 as trading volumes remained subdued, further increasing the potential pressure from elevated short positioning. The stock gained 3.2% in the five-day period covered through Thursday, even as short sellers added to their positions. Despite the weekly advance, shares remain down 17% year-to-date.Ortex-reported short interest in NANO Nuclear Energytroughed around 19% of free float on April 23, coinciding with a six-week high in the stock, but bearish positioning has rebuilt consistently since then. This week, short interest as a percentage of free float saw a particularly steep spike, rising from 29.8% to 34.6%, a five-month high, as bearish positioning accelerated. Days-to-cover also climbed from 5.2 to 6.0, its highest level in four months. The stock still managed to advance 17% in the five-day period covered through Thursday, potentially putting pressure on the growing short base. Despite the sharp weekly advance however, NANO Nuclear Energy shares remain down 18% year-to-date.SHORT INTEREST DECLINERSShares of Bob's Discount Storehave now doubled since the stock's all-time low on May 6th, and some of the bears finally appear to be capitulating. This week, Ortex-reported short interest on the stock slid from 29.4% all the way down to 20.7% - the lowest level since the first week of June. Elevated trading volume in the stock has also driven a similarly outsized retreat in days-to-cover, which is slipping from 8.0 to a six-week low of 5.8. Shares of Bob's Discount were up 8% in the five-day period covered, capturing a new leg of gains following in-line Q2 results on August 6 that was followed by largly positive post-earnings commentary from sell-side analysts commending the company for its market share gains. While Bob's Discount Store was down 3% on Friday, its year-to-date gains now stand at 13%.Ortex-reported short interest in Tango Therapeuticspeaked at a four-month high of 69% of free float on July 14, but short positioning has since been flushed sharply lower. This week, short interest plunged from 56% to 36% of free float, its lowest level in 14 months, marking a dramatic unwind in bearish bets. Days-to-cover moved in the opposite direction, however, rising from 10.4 to 11.8 as trading volumes moderated. The stock fell 12% in the five-day period covered through Thursday, including weakness on Tuesday following its Q2 results that came in spite of the management's constructive discussion of the vopimetostat plus daraxonrasib study. Even after the recent pullback to the lowest level since the company announced a positive update on vopimetostat plus daraxonrasib in pancreatic cancer on June 5th, Tango Therapeutics shares have still nearly tripled year-to-date.
Tango CEO: Vopimetostat Achieves 92% Response Rate in Pancreatic Cancer
"The second quarter marked a pivotal period for Tango, with milestones that validated our PRMT5 inhibitor pipeline and reflect the progress of our maturing organization. Notably, initial Phase 1/2 data showed vopimetostat plus daraxonrasib achieved a 92% objective response rate with encouraging durability in MTAP-deleted, RAS-mutant pancreatic cancer, giving us the confidence to move this combination rapidly into Phase 3 development for patients," said Malte Peters, Chief Executive Officer of Tango. "As the Company transitions from a research-led organization into one positioned to bring vopimetostat to patients, our focus for the second half of the year remains on defining the registrational path for vopimetostat in front-line pancreatic cancer and providing updates from our broader pipeline. I am pleased with the progress we have made against executing on our clinical development plan, which is well on track, and the team continues to be laser-focused on bringing vopimetostat to patients as soon as possible. With our robust balance sheet, our cash runway carries us through our planned development and commercialization preparation in pancreatic cancer, as well as ongoing work across our pipeline."

Nasdaq Falls Over 1% as Chip Makers Plunge
Stocks fell sharply on Friday amid another round of selling of chip makers and new geopolitical tensions. The Nasdaq was the laggard, falling over 1%, as semiconductor manufacturers plunged on concerns that hyperscalers will invest less in AI infrastructure and worries about improving Chinese AI models. Meanwhile, pro-inflationary risks gathered momentum as the war in the Middle East continues and fuel costs pick back up. Adding another potential headwind, President Trump claimed in an address last night that China interfered in the 2020 presidential elections, risking the economic truce that has been holding since last year's tariff exchanges.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1. Ondas Holdings Short Interest Rises to 40%
Welcome to this week's installment of "The Short Interest Report" - The Fly's weekly recap of short interest trends among some of the most widely followed high-short-float stocks. As a basis of comparison for stocks discussed below, the S&P 500 index was up 0.8%, the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.5%, the Russell 2000 index was down 0.1%, the Russell 2000 Growth ETFwas up 0.5% and the Russell 2000 Value ETFwas down 0.8% in the four-day trading session range through July 9.SHORT INTEREST GAINERSOrtex-reported short interest in Ondas Holdingshad troughed at a four-month low around 28% in mid-June but has since gained more briskly, topping a record high of 40% this week just as the stock has faltered. Days to cover on the name also increased, going up from 2.7 to 3.1 despite the notable pickup in trading volume in the second half of June and thus far into July. The stock was up 3.2% in the four-day period through Thursday before Friday's 5% decline, and shares have also now fallen 46% since the multi-month highs on June 2, as the company's announcement of its Cyberhawk acquisition and the update of a new autonomous defense systems launch has been met with more pronounced selling.Ortex-reported short interest in Quantum Computinghas climbed back above 32% of free float, recovering from the mid-20% range over the past several weeks and reaching the cusp of the highest levels seen this year during the final week of June at 33%. Similarly, days-to-cover increased modestly from roughly 3.0 to 3.2, suggesting short interest has grown while trading volumes have remained relatively stable after the surge in activity earlier this spring. Short sellers have continued to add exposure even as shares have consolidated following their retreat from May highs. This week, shares of Quantum were up about 1% through Thursday. The stock has declined roughly 35% from its May peak, yet bearish positioning has continued to build rather than unwind. The combination of renewed short selling, a short interest ratio above 30% of free float, and relatively modest days-to-cover suggests investor skepticism remains elevated, leaving the door open for a squeeze should the company deliver a meaningful positive catalyst.Ortex-reported short interest in NetSTREIThad troughed at a four-month low around 29% late last week but bounced for four consecutive sessions this week, rising from 29.2% to a two-week high of 34.3%. Similarly, days-to-cover had come in for multi-month highs around 27% in the final week of June to below 16% as trading volumes were accentuated by the bullish price action following the stock's admission into the S&P SmallCap 600 index on June 24. The outsized rally in shares is now mean-reverting, with the stock ending the four-day period through Thursday flat, though NetSTREIT shares are still up 21% year-to-date.Ortex-reported short interest in Tango Therapeuticshas rebounded to approximately 51% of free float from last week's 46%, reversing about four months of steady declines from peak short positioning above 80% of free float in early March. Days-to-cover on the name slid however from 8.0 to 7.5, reflecting June's elevated activity. As the stock rallied on positive clinical developments - most notably, the vopimetsotat plus daraxonrasib combination data released in early June - short sellers have started rebuilding positions despite shares continuing to trade near recent highs. The stock was up approximately 3.5% over the four-day period through Thursday and remained well above its pre-June breakout levels after more than doubling from its spring lows.SHORT INTEREST DECLINERSOrtex-reported short interest in Neurogenehas declined from nearly 60% to about 32% of free float, marking the first meaningful reduction in bearish positioning after remaining near record highs just under 80% for much of the year. Similarly, days-to-cover has contracted sharply from 20.1 to 17.9, reflecting both short covering and much greater trading activity volume over the recent two weeks. The stock is down 7% on Friday but rallied roughly 21% over the four-day period through Thursday and has now gained 94% year-to-date, with strong upswing on heavier volume explaining the more extreme short-covering.
