Under the agreement, Millicom's operations in Chile will leverage Amdocs' full-stack business support systems and operations support systems, supported by AI-driven application management, operations services, and software factory expertise. Millicom Acquires 32.5% Stake in Colombia Telecomunicaciones
Millicom announced it has acquired the remaining 32.5% equity stake in Colombia Telecomunicaciones formerly held by La Nacion. This milestone follows the conclusion of the tender offer for Telefonica's controlling stake in February and marks the final step in Millicom's strategic consolidation of the entity. The company said, "The acquisition represents a decisive moment for the Colombian telecommunications sector. By integrating Coltel fully into its operations, Millicom is creating a large-scale, financially viable operator with the enhanced investment capacity required to accelerate the country's digital transformation. The consolidation delivers the scale needed to accelerate nationwide 5G deployment, enhance service quality through combined technical capabilities, and support government efforts to expand digital inclusion-ultimately providing faster, more reliable connectivity and a more seamless digital experience for millions of Colombians. The transaction takes place in an evolving competitive landscape, where traditional operators compete with global digital platforms, satellite providers, and other connectivity players. Scale, investment capacity, and operational efficiency are key to remaining competitive."
Millicom Signs Long-Term Agreement with Trans Americas to Expand Network
Millicom announced a long-term commercial agreement with Trans Americas Fiber System to expand its international network infrastructure and resilience across Central America. As part of the partnership, Millicom will enhance its international capacity through the provider's TAM-1 system, a next-generation subsea fiber optic network spanning approximately 7,000 kilometers. The company said the infrastructure will provide increased route diversity, improved network resilience, and greater scalability to meet the growing demand for high-capacity digital services in the region.
Millicom Acquires Remaining UNE EPM Shares for COP 2.1T
Millicom announced that it has been awarded 100% of EPM's remaining shares in UNE EPM Telecommunicaciones following a winning bid in the public auction conducted by Empresas Publicas de Medellin. Millicom's bid was COP 418,741 per share, representing a total consideration of approximately COP 2.1T, or $571M. This acquisition consolidates Millicom's ownership in UNE to nearly 100%, following the successful completion of the public divestment process managed by EPM in accordance with Colombian Law 226. The transaction is expected to close on January 29, in accordance with the established auction rules.
Millicom Interested in Bidding for Telefonica's Chilean Unit
Millicom (TIGO) has expressed interest in bidding for Telefonica's (TEF) Chilean unit, Carolina Gonzalez and Rodrigo Orihuela of Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Telefonica has been seeking bids for its Chile unit since last year, according to Bloomberg.
