Treasury Yields Retreat as Netflix Falls Over 5%
Treasury yields retreated across the curve on Tuesday as weak U.S. housing data dented the perception of resilient economic growth. Rate-sensitive and defensive areas of the market outperformed, with Healthcare and REITS seen as the best-performing sectors in the benchmark S&P 500. Communication Services - the worst sector in the S&P - struggled, as Meta Platformsextended its three-day decline as Muse-enfused sugar-high continued to wear off, with the stock now down 10% from last week's high. The earnings season shifted into a higher gear, with more high-profile names outside of the financial sector reporting results. Netflixwas down over 5% despite an earnings beat, as the company reduced its FY26 outlook for overall revenue and ad sales. SpaceXsoared however after broadly beating estimates and also indicating that the company has formed a strategic committee to consider a merger with Tesla. In the opening hour of the evening session S&P e-minis are up 0.2% and Nasdaq 100 futures are up 0.7%. In commodities, WTI crude oil is back above $98 a barrel after dipping to $95 following an unconfirmed report from Qatari newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that Qatar and Pakistan presented a mediation proposal that addresses the demands of the U.S. and Iran.Check out this evening's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER AFTER EARNINGS -Space Exploration Technologiesup 7.2%Capital One Financialup 5.7%ALSO HIGHER -Super Micro Computerup 15.9% after Q1 pre-announcementDOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Intuitive Surgicaldown 6.9%Netflixdown 5.9%Pegasystemsdown 4.9%Stridedown 2.2%United Airlinesdown 1.0%ALSO LOWER -Alpha Teknovadown 22.2% after equity offering
Company's Q4 Gross Margin to Align More with Q2
Says Q4 gross margin to be more consistent with Q2.
Musk Expects Starship to Launch Weekly Next Year
CEO Musk says: "We expect Starship to fly weekly at some point in the first half of next year, and then second half of next year twice weekly or maybe even more frequently than that by the end of next year. The rate at which we launch Starship will increase dramatically as we solve the rapid and complete reusability. We will have complete reusability, then at first there will be a little bit of refurbishment that is needed between each flight, and we will iron out what the need for any refurbishment such that you can immediately land the rocket and launch it again just like an airplane... What I expect over time is not in the distant future, probably within three years, is that we will have about 100 times the bandwidth of the current Starlink constellation. Because we will have launched satellites with an order of magnitude more bandwidth, and we will place into orbit an order of magnitude more Starlink satellites. Probably something on the order of 100,000 satellites, each of which have more than 10 times the bandwidth of the current Starlink system. I think revenue for Starlink will be at least somewhat proportionate to the total bandwidth delivered. We will also have direct-to-cell, high-bandwidth direct-to-cell capability, and we will be building out our terrestrial networks. There is broad-based connectivity anywhere that SpaceX and Starlink are allowed to operate." Comments taken from Q3 earnings conference call.
Musk Expects Compute Capacity to Reach 13 Gigawatts by 2027
CEO Musk says: "I think the demand for bandwidth is going to be dramatically higher than it is today. I think in three to five years there is probably a demand for 1,000 times more bandwidth than there is currently, because AI or SI agents will on a per-agent basis use far more bandwidth than a person, and there will be far more agents than there are people... With next year being primarily Rubin, I would say I am fairly confident of being able to bring an incremental 10 gigawatts of compute online in 2027. That would be in addition to the roughly 3 gigawatts, maybe 2.5 to 3 gigawatts that we will have online by the end of this year. Let me put it this way. I would be surprised if we brought on less than 13 gigawatts of compute by the end of next year."
Company States New Compute Deployments Have Payback of Less Than a Year
The company states: "At current pricing, new compute deployments are generating a payback of less than a year. Pricing is currently tracking slightly above the high end of the $30 to $50 per watt range we were discussing just last quarter, which further supports the attractiveness of these terrestrial SI compute investments." Comments taken from Q3 earnings conference call.
