Australia to Sue Meta and TikTok for Non-Compliance with Social Media Ban

Australia is set to sue Meta's (META) Facebook, TikTok, as well as other major digital platforms for not complying with the country's social media ban for children under 16, Angus Whitley of Bloomberg reports, citing an interview with Communications Minister Anika Wells. Back in March, the eSafety Commissioner said it was investigating Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat (SNAP), and YouTube (GOOGL) for potentially failing to adhere to the law.

Turkey Bans Social Media Services for Children Under 15

Turkey will no longer allow social media platforms to provide their services to children under 15 years of age, Inci Ozbek of Bloomberg reports, citing a regulation published in the Official Gazette. Companies will be required to verify users' ages when accounts are created by using an age-verification token through an e-government system. The regulation will take effect on November 1st and age verification for existing accounts is set to be completed by March 31, 2027. Publicly traded companies in the space include Meta Platforms (META), Alphabet (GOOGL), Pinterest (PINS), Reddit (RDDT) and Snap (SNAP).

Blue Duck Capital Urges Snap Board to Raise External Capital for Specs

Blue Duck Capital, a long/short equity investment manager focused on thematic opportunities within Technology, Media, Telecom, Consumer, and Industrial sectors and shareholder of Snap (SNAP) common stock, issued an open letter to the SNAP Board of Directors outlining a path to unlock shareholder value associated with its industry-leading Specs technology. In the letter, Blue Duck urges the Board to raise dedicated external capital for Specs from venture investors or a strategic partner without diluting SNAP shareholders. Blue Duck believes that doing so would unlock a potential re-rating that could more than double SNAP's share price to $12-14, by: Pulling forward the timeline required for next generation Specs to improve form factor and price point. Removing an estimated $500 million in annual Specs spending from SNAP's core business, freeing free cash flow growth from the funding burden of Specs development. Establishing market value for Specs, which Blue Duck believes is $5 billion based on comparable precedents, so Wall Street can value SNAP on a sum-of-the-parts basis. Resetting value for SNAP's core advertising and subscription business, which the market currently values at just 2-3.5x estimated 2027 EBITDA despite strong revenue growth and nearly one billion monthly users. Improving employee morale, executive retention, and crystalizing a more focused strategic path forward.
