Disney in Talks with Studios for Infinity Vision Brand
Disney (DIS) has held talks with other studios about using its new Infinity Vision brand for large-screen movie formats, potentially creating a competitor to Imax (IMAX), Thomas Buckley of Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Disney has met with Skydance's (SKYD) Paramount Pictures, Comcast's (CMCSA) Universal Pictures, Lionsgate Studios (LION) and Sony Pictures (SONY) to discuss Infinity Vision - a certification that combines hundreds of existing theater chains' large-screen formats like AMC Entertainment's (AMC) XL and Cinemark's (CNK) XD, under one brand, sources told Bloomberg. The studios have shown early interest in Disney's initiative, but some are waiting to review the impact of Infinity Vision's marketing on Disney's "Avengers: Doomsday," which opens on December 18, the sources added. Shares of Imax are down 2% to $50.50 following the report.

IMAX Achieves Record Summer Box Office of $728M
IMAX Corporation "soared to its highest grossing summer ever" at the global box office with $728M in worldwide receipts from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends - up 73% over its previous record set in 2023. Powered by the performance of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, the IMAX global network also delivered its greatest share ever of the overall box office from June through August, with 5.8% of the total on just over 1,800 screens worldwide. "This summer has been one for the history books, as The Odyssey has illuminated a broader awakening around IMAX - in both our impact throughout culture and our commercial potential around the world," said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "We believe this moment will unlock new opportunities to engage with our growing legions of fans and grow our business, most immediately with the excellent slate of films ahead this year and into 2027."
