Stock Futures Steady as S&P 500 Hits Record High
Stock futures are mostly flat after the S&P 500 closed at a record high Thursday, as investors balance easing inflation pressures and strong corporate earnings against renewed geopolitical risks. The inflation backdrop remains supportive for equities. July CPI and PPI both came in softer than expected, reducing concerns that the Federal Reserve will need to raise interest rates at its September meeting. PPI was unchanged in July after declining 0.1% in June, while the latest CPI data showed inflation continuing to moderate. The market is increasingly focused on whether the combination of cooling inflation and a weakening labor market will give the Fed room to ease policy later this year.AI and semiconductor stocks remain a major source of strength. Applied Materials is falling in premarket trading despite reporting strong results and raising its outlook. Meanwhile, memory and storage stocks including SanDisk, Seagate Technology and Micron have been strong following upbeat industry forecasts.Brent crude is approaching $90 a barrel after the U.S. threatened an indefinite naval blockade of Iran as efforts to reach a ceasefire remain stalled. Higher oil prices could complicate the Fed's inflation outlook if they persist, particularly with gasoline prices already above $4 a gallon. In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures rose 0.08%, Nasdaq futures rose 0.26% and Dow futures fell 0.16%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER -Redditup 11% after being chosen for admission into the S&P 500 indexSanDiskup 6% after JPMorgan initiated coverage of the stock with an Overweight rating and $2,250 price target following the company's investor day meetingWayfairup 5% after Bernstein upgraded shares to Outperform with a price target of $125, up from $100Fox Corp.up 3% after Wells Fargo upgraded the stock to Overweight with a price target of $80, up from $65UP AFTER EARNINGS -Eton Pharmaceuticalsup 27%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -ARS Pharmaceuticalsdown 15%Quince Therapeuticsdown 9%Applied Materialsdown 6%Outlook Therapeuticsdown 4%Sigma Lithiumdown 2%
S&P 500 Rises as Oil Prices Fall
The major averages closed broadly higher as oil prices fell and investors digested softer-than-feared inflation data and another slate of corporate earnings reports. Communication services was the best-performing sector in the benchmark index, bolstered by 5% gains out of Netflixas well as strong performance by Telecom Services names. Basic Materials names underperformed however as metals prices continued their range-bound trading in spite of benign inflation data this week. The Fed outlook has become somewhat more favorable for equities following the inflation data and the weak July employment report. Meanwhile, oil prices were down as concerns over global demand and rising U.S. crude inventories offset continued geopolitical risks surrounding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. In the opening hour of the evening session, S&P 500 e-Minis, Dow Industrials, and Nasdaq 100 futures are trading flat. Eton Pharmaceuticals Q3 Revenue Reaches $37.6M, Exceeding Expectations
Reports Q3 revenue $37.6M, consensus $27.12M. "Eton reported another outstanding quarter, delivering 99% year-over-year revenue growth, reflecting the strength of our rare disease portfolio and the exceptional execution of our team. Our Hemangeol relaunch is off to a strong start, with the patient conversion completed ahead of schedule, positioning our therapy for continued momentum and furthering our mission to allow more infants with infantile hemangiomas to benefit from timely treatment. In addition, we further expanded our commitment to the infantile hemangioma community with the licensing of ASN-001, an exciting late-stage development program that is expected to further improve care and broaden treatment options for families, while potentially becoming the largest revenue opportunity in our pipeline. The rest of our portfolio continued to deliver in the quarter, with strong contributions from our entire pediatric endocrinology franchise, including the recently launched Desmoda, and our metabolic products," said Sean Brynjelsen, CEO of Eton Pharmaceuticals.
Eton Pharmaceuticals Licenses U.S. Rights to ASN-001
Eton Pharmaceuticals announced that the company has licensed U.S. rights to rare disease product candidate ASN-001 from Auson Pharmaceuticals. ASN-001 is under development for the treatment of proliferating superficial infantile hemangiomas. Auson previously completed a three-arm Phase II/III trial of 168 patients that showed efficacy results for ASN-001. In the study, 56% of patients applying ASN-001 twice daily and 42% of patients taking ASN-001 three times per day showed elimination or near-elimination of their infantile hemangiomas at week 24, compared with 15% in the placebo group. Eton will run a bioavailability bridging study for ASN-001 and intends to submit the New Drug Application upon completion of the study in the second half of 2027.
