Major Averages Decline Amid Rising Geopolitical Tensions
The major averages were broadly lower as rising geopolitical tensions and another bout of semiconductor selling weigh on risk sentiment. President Donald Trump said he was reinstating a blockade on Iranian shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, even going so far in a social media post as to call the U.S. the "Guardian of the Hormuz Strait." Oil prices surged after the news, reviving concerns that higher energy costs could complicate the inflation outlook.Meanwhile, this week marks the unofficial start of second-quarter earnings season, with major U.S. banks set to report over the next several days. JPMorgan Maintains Neutral Rating on Conmed with $40 Price Target
JPMorgan notes that Bloomberg reported last Friday that Conmed was considering selling the company after receiving interest from private equity firms. While "hopeful" that Conmed is on an upwards trajectory after "a tough run the last few years," the firm contends that the company's fundamentals "likely make it less attractive" to a strategic buyer. However, the company's free cash flow yield and "clean financials" are likely to make it "look highly attractive to financial acquirers" and it could fit into a broader portfolio of orthopedic products, added the analyst, who has a Neutral rating and $40 price target on Conmed shares.
