Wolfspeed and Infineon Expand SiC Wafer Supply Agreement
Wolfspeed (WOLF) and Infineon Technologies (IFNNY) announced the expansion and extension of their existing long-term silicon carbide, SiC, wafer supply agreement. The expanded agreement adds 200 mm silicon carbide wafers to the existing 150 mm supply and builds on a supply relationship between the two companies spanning more than 20 years. With this agreement, Wolfspeed strengthens its position as a leading Western manufacturer in the SiC market.
Stock Futures Lower as Oil Prices and Treasury Yields Rise
Stock futures are lower as a renewed jump in oil prices and Treasury yields revives inflation concerns. Brent crude jumped nearly 5% to above $105 a barrel, while WTI climbed toward $93 as concerns over renewed U.S.-Iran military action increased. The 10-year Treasury yield rose to around 5.34%, near its highest level since 2002, putting additional pressure on equities, particularly high-valuation technology stocks. The broader setup is increasingly a tug-of-war between strong expected earnings and deteriorating macro conditions. LSEG expects S&P 500 earnings to rise 30.6% in the third quarter, but the market is confronting a 10-year yield near 5.35%, oil above $100 and a Fed that still expects at least one more rate hike this year.In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures fell 0.41%, Nasdaq futures fell 0.68% and Dow futures fell 0.68%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER -Haemoneticsup 17% after disclosing its entry into a non-exclusive supply agreement with CSL PlasmaWolfspeedup 16% after receiving a conditional loan commitment letter from the U.S. Department of War for up to $1.5B of long-term financingPalantirup 2% after Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock to Buy with a $230 price targetUP AFTER EARNINGS -Helen of Troyup 13%PepsiCoup 1%Applied Digitalup 1%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -AngioDynamicsdown 2%Levi Straussdown 2%Tilraydown 1%
S&P 500 Ends Three-Day Gain as 10-Year Treasury Yield Hits New High
S&P 500 broke a string of three consecutive gaining sessions, backing away from yesterday's record highs. Investors took greater caution as the yield on the 10-year Treasury note hit a fresh 24-year high of 5.36% before relatively strong demand in today's 10-year auction drove that rate back down to 5.28%, driving some relief into the equity space.Healthcare was the best-performing sector in the S&P 500 on Wednesday while Basic Materials and Industrials were the two worst areas of the market. Precious metals stocks were also weighed down by multi-week lows in Gold and Silver prices. Tech was mixed again, with profit-taking among some of the biggest cybersecurity names that had seen record highs overnight, as Palo Alto Networksfell 3% and CrowdStrikefell 5% . Computer hardware names were generally higher however, paced by 4% gains in Everpure. Wolfspeed Receives $1.5B Loan Commitment from U.S. Department of Defense
Wolfspeed announced it has received a conditional loan commitment letter from the U.S. Department of War, through its Office of Strategic Capital, for up to $1.5B of long-term financing to support the domestic development and production of silicon carbide materials and wide bandgap power devices, with an additional focus on U.S. national security applications. "SiC and GaN have critical national security applications," said Robert Feurle, Chief Executive Officer of Wolfspeed. "With this financing, the company would be well positioned to not only continue to serve the DoW but also expand its capabilities for the benefit of U.S. national security as a whole." The conditional commitment letter contemplates a senior secured delayed-draw term loan facility of up to $1.5B. "This conditional 30-year commitment represents another significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to optimize Wolfspeed's capital structure and improve our financial foundation," said Gregor van Issum, Chief Financial Officer of Wolfspeed. "Subject to the satisfaction of diligence, negotiation of definitive agreements, and other financial, legal, and investment conditions, the broader commitment is expected to provide additional long-dated capital to support our strategic priorities, improve financial flexibility, and further position Wolfspeed for long-term value creation." In connection with the potential financing and subject to the negotiation and execution of definitive agreements, Wolfspeed would be required to issue to the DoW VWAP-based warrants to purchase, in the aggregate, up to 7.5% of Wolfspeed's fully diluted equity, with the warrants issuable pro rata as and when financing tranches are funded. The execution of the definitive agreements and consummation of the potential financing are subject to substantial due diligence and numerous conditions, the negotiation and finalization of agreements, significant closing conditions, governmental authorizations and approvals, appropriations and required third-party consents. There can be no assurance that definitive agreements will be executed or that any financing will be provided. Additional details are available in Wolfspeed's Current Report on Form 8-K filed today with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Stock Futures Lower as Investors Assess Bond Market Pressure
Stock futures are lower as investors assess renewed pressure in the bond market and higher oil prices. The 30-year Treasury yield has climbed back above 5.2%, near its highest level in roughly two decades, as investors worry about rising government debt and persistent inflation pressures. The Treasury moved to double its purchases of longer-dated government bonds, helping yields pull back from their recent highs, although the move does not address the underlying fiscal concerns driving the selloff.Oil is adding to the inflation concerns, with Brent crude rising for a fifth consecutive session as tensions surrounding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz remain unresolved. President Donald Trump vowed "economic warfare" on Iran and penalties for its supporters, as the United Arab Emirates reported it was ceasing trade with Tehran. The AI trade is also facing greater scrutiny after the recent technology selloff. Second-quarter S&P 500 earnings are nevertheless running about 52% above the prior year, with technology-sector profits up roughly 74%. The question for investors is increasingly whether those earnings gains can justify the enormous capital spending and valuations attached to the AI buildout. In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures fell 0.49%, Nasdaq futures fell 0.73% and Dow futures fell 0.72%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.UP AFTER PRESIDENT TRUMP CALL TO PASS CLARITY ACT -Strategyup 9%Coinbaseup 6%Geminiup 5%Circle Internetup 4%Mara Holdingsup 5%American Bitcoinup 4%Robinhoodup 4%UP AFTER EARNINGS -Nordsonup 3%Deereup 2%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Cotydown 18%Wolfspeeddown 8%Walmartdown 7%Alibabadown 6%
