Nasdaq Composite Falls 2.6% This Week
Nasdaq Composite has erased all of this week's gains amid renewed heavy selling in the tech space as the index fell by 2.6% - the biggest decline in months. Market rotation away from the AI trade following earnings from Metaand Teslaovernight also punished the S&P 500 by over 1%, with the Tech sector by far the biggest loser. Communication and semiconductor equipment stocks traded especially weak. Defensively-oriented Consumer Staples and higher-yielding Utilities outperformed amid the shift in sentiment from AI-buildout driven economic strength to greater uncertainty. The AI wobble was also acutely felt in fixed income markets, with the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note falling 20 basis points to a one-month low of 4.95%. Fed fund futures now assign a 93% chance that the Fed will leave rates on hold next week versus 85% overnight. Fixed income markets have also repriced the probability of no further Fed tightening this year to 20% from 10% yesterday. In the opening hour of the evening session, Nasdaq 100 futures are down another 0.3% while S&P e-Minis are trading flat. Western Digital, a key tech name reporting results after hours, reversed its post-earnings gains despite beating estimates as the management warned about higher input costs and growing capex during the earnings call. Elsewhere, the consumer cyclical sector saw a disappointing update out of Deckers, where a Q2 revenue miss and below-consensus Q3 guidance weighted the stock down by over 7%.Check out this evening's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER AFTER EARNINGS -RingCentralup 14.5%Robert Halfup 10.7%JAKKS Pacificup 2.6%Omnicom Groupup 2.4%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Deckers Outdoordown 7.0%Bloom Energydown 6.1%Western Digitaldown 5.3%Comfort Systems USAdown 5.3%Kilroy Realtydown 4.9%SS&C Technologiesdown 4.8%MaxLineardown 4.7%SLM Corporationdown 3.4%Boyd Gamingdown 2.6%VeriSigndown 2.4%
