Stock Futures Steady as S&P 500 Hits Record High
Stock futures are mostly flat after the S&P 500 closed at a record high Thursday, as investors balance easing inflation pressures and strong corporate earnings against renewed geopolitical risks. The inflation backdrop remains supportive for equities. July CPI and PPI both came in softer than expected, reducing concerns that the Federal Reserve will need to raise interest rates at its September meeting. PPI was unchanged in July after declining 0.1% in June, while the latest CPI data showed inflation continuing to moderate. The market is increasingly focused on whether the combination of cooling inflation and a weakening labor market will give the Fed room to ease policy later this year.AI and semiconductor stocks remain a major source of strength. Applied Materials is falling in premarket trading despite reporting strong results and raising its outlook. Meanwhile, memory and storage stocks including SanDisk, Seagate Technology and Micron have been strong following upbeat industry forecasts.Brent crude is approaching $90 a barrel after the U.S. threatened an indefinite naval blockade of Iran as efforts to reach a ceasefire remain stalled. Higher oil prices could complicate the Fed's inflation outlook if they persist, particularly with gasoline prices already above $4 a gallon. In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures rose 0.08%, Nasdaq futures rose 0.26% and Dow futures fell 0.16%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER -Redditup 11% after being chosen for admission into the S&P 500 indexSanDiskup 6% after JPMorgan initiated coverage of the stock with an Overweight rating and $2,250 price target following the company's investor day meetingWayfairup 5% after Bernstein upgraded shares to Outperform with a price target of $125, up from $100Fox Corp.up 3% after Wells Fargo upgraded the stock to Overweight with a price target of $80, up from $65UP AFTER EARNINGS -Eton Pharmaceuticalsup 27%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -ARS Pharmaceuticalsdown 15%Quince Therapeuticsdown 9%Applied Materialsdown 6%Outlook Therapeuticsdown 4%Sigma Lithiumdown 2%
S&P 500 Rises as Oil Prices Fall
The major averages closed broadly higher as oil prices fell and investors digested softer-than-feared inflation data and another slate of corporate earnings reports. Communication services was the best-performing sector in the benchmark index, bolstered by 5% gains out of Netflixas well as strong performance by Telecom Services names. Basic Materials names underperformed however as metals prices continued their range-bound trading in spite of benign inflation data this week. The Fed outlook has become somewhat more favorable for equities following the inflation data and the weak July employment report. Meanwhile, oil prices were down as concerns over global demand and rising U.S. crude inventories offset continued geopolitical risks surrounding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. In the opening hour of the evening session, S&P 500 e-Minis, Dow Industrials, and Nasdaq 100 futures are trading flat. In commodities, WTI crude oil is just above $81 a barrel.Check out this evening's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER AFTER EARNINGS -Eton Pharmaceuticalsup 20.4%Heartflow.up 17.7%Nu Holdingsup 7.5%AudioEye, Inc.up 2.6%ALSO HIGHER -Redditup 11.1% on S&P 500 inclusionDOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Intellicheck, Inc.down 17.9%ARS Pharmaceuticalsdown 13.4%Globant S.A.down 12.7%Applied Materialsdown 4.9%HawkEye 360down 2.8%ALSO LOWER -Birkenstock Holding plcdown 4.4% after equity offering
ARS Pharma Q2 Revenue $33.66M, Beats Consensus
Reports Q2 revenue $33.66M, consensus $31.32M. "It is a privilege to lead ARS Pharma at this pivotal time, and my conviction in the opportunity ahead has only grown since stepping into this role. As the first and only needle-free epinephrine option, neffy is well positioned to become the standard of care for patients and caregivers in this multi-billion-dollar market," said Donn Casale, President and CEO of ARS Pharma. "Today, we are announcing a shift in focus to provider adoption, with a more efficient commercial strategy intended to drive market share growth without sacrificing revenue. We believe that provider awareness and recommendation will be the cornerstone to growing the neffy brand. Our confidence in continued revenue growth, along with a more efficient commercial model, is expected to provide the foundation for long-term value creation. Beyond neffy, advancing our intranasal epinephrine platform into CSU unlocks a potential major growth opportunity in an area of high unmet need built on top of our existing commercial infrastructure."
ARS Pharmaceuticals Appoints Donn Casale as New CEO
The company states: "ARS Pharmaceuticals announced a CEO succession, in which co-founder and CEO Richard Lowenthal will no longer serve as an employee and officer of the company effective July 6, 2026. The Board has appointed Donn Casale, currently President, as CEO and Director effective July 7, 2026. Mr. Casale brings more than 25 years of biopharmaceutical business and commercial leadership, with a track record of scaling innovative products in large, patient-driven healthcare markets. Prior to ARS Pharma, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at Dynavax Technologies, where he built the U.S. commercial infrastructure and helped scale the hepatitis B vaccine HEPLISAV-B(R) from launch to more than $300 million in annualized revenue and over 50% U.S. market share, positioning the company for Sanofi's $2.2B acquisition."
Micron Technology Shares Rise 14.4%, Boosting Semiconductor Sector
The tech sector remained under pressure on Wednesday as investors continued to flock to the safety of counter-cyclical areas of the market such as Utilities and Health Care. Energy lagged as continued signs of a Middle East de-escalation and progress in Strait of Hormuz reopening has pulled the price of WTI Crude Oil futures below $70 per barrel. The evening session and a blowout earnings report from Micronhas manifested a sea change in sentiment and the likelihood of a snap-back rally in the AI trade on Thursday. Shares of the memory maker were up over 14%, nearly erasing all of yesterday's broadbased losses. The strong results from Micron also put a bid under the other semiconductor and memory names. Elsewhere, a robust medium-term outlook from Qualcommwith a higher non-handset revenue target of $40B further relieved the tensions regarding valuations in Semis. Late in afterhours, S&P e-minis are up 10.6% and Nasdaq 100 contract is up 2.0%.Check out this evening's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER AFTER EARNINGS -Micronup 14.4%; Other semis and memory names broadly up in sympathy: Lam Researchup 6.5%, Rambusup 6.8%, Arm Holdingsup 6.7%, Sandiskup 11.1%, Western Digitalup 10.9%.Methode Electronics, Inc.up 14.4%ALSO HIGHER -Qualcommup 12.9% after disclosing medium-term targetsNETSTREITup 5.8% after entering S&P SmallCap 600 indexFormFactor, Inc.up 5.2% after being added to Russell 1000 indexDOWN AFTER EARNINGS -MillerKnolldown 4.9%Trip.com Group Limiteddown 4.3%H.B.
