Novavax Secures Approval for Nuvaxovid Targeting SARS-CoV-2 XFG Variant

Novavax's (NVAX) partners have received approvals for the Nuvaxovid formulation to target the SARS-CoV-2 XFG variant for the 2026-2027 vaccination season in major markets including the U.S., European Union and Japan. These approvals position Novavax to continue earning royalties on net sales in these markets this season. Sanofi (SNY), Novavax's largest partner, leads Nuvaxovid commercial activities across most major markets and looks to be positioned for a robust 2026-2027 season, expanding the vaccine's commercial reach through broader activities in the U.S. and launches in Germany, Canada and other international markets from 2026 onward. Novavax is eligible to receive ongoing royalties from sales of the vaccine per their 2024 collaboration and license agreement. Takeda (TAK) commercializes Nuvaxovid in Japan. In the 2025-2026 season, Nuvaxovid was the second-most used COVID-19 vaccine in Japan, with delivery volumes and the number of sites receiving the vaccine increasing significantly year over year. Under the CLA terms announced in May 2025, Novavax earns annual milestones tied to regulatory approvals and royalties on net sales each season.

Major Averages Mixed at Open Amid Middle East Uncertainty

The major averages were mixed near noon to start the week, as traders are beginning to doubt that the U.S. and Iran will reach a lasting agreement to end the war in the near term. Balancing the negative sentiment around conflict in the Middle East are strong corporate earnings and optimism around AI spending.Iran is saying it is nearing an agreement with Oman on new shipping lanes but maintaining conditions that could delay a broader reopening. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said over the weekend that there was "no possibility of restarting negotiations" with the U.S. as long as Washington continues to violate the June memorandum of understanding. Oil prices were higher after the news. The market is also digesting last week's unexpectedly weak July jobs report, which showed payrolls fell by 23,000 and included substantial downward revisions to prior months. The report reduced expectations for a September Fed rate hike, but the outlook remains uncertain because inflation data due this week could complicate the picture. Investors will get the July CPI report Tuesday, followed by the PPI report later in the week.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1. Sanofi Faces Shortages of Myozyme and Nexviazyme Due to Production Issues

Sanofi is facing shortages of Myozyme and Nexviazyme for Pompe disease after manufacturing and quality-control issues at its Waterford facility, which was cited by the FDA in June for violations involving production of other medicines, STAT's Ed Silverman reports. It is unclear when normal supplies will return, as Sanofi has indicated it could take months before production has sufficiently resumed and stabilized, Silverman writes. "The impact varies by country and by product, depending on available inventory, local demand and the timing of upcoming shipments," a Sanofi spokesman says. "In some markets, delays are limited. In others, intermittent or recurring supply interruptions have reached patients or may do so as the situation evolves."
