MGM Resorts in Talks for Acquisition with Barry Diller's People Incorporated

Catch up on the weekend's top five stories with this list compiled by The Fly: 1) MGM Resorts (MGM) has been in talks over a potential deal with Barry Diller's People Incorporated (PPLI) after the media mogul offered to acquire the casino giant, the Wall Street Journal's Jessica Toonkel and Lauren Thomas report, citing people familiar with the matter. MGM established a special board committee and lined up advisers to help evaluate the acquisition offer, the authors say, noting that MGM believes Diller's offer undervalues the company. 2) Eisai (ESAIY) and Biogen (BIIB) announced that new data presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, AAIC, 2026 in London support that the LEQEMBI subcutaneous autoinjector, SC-AI, formulation offers efficacy and safety comparable to intravenous administration for people with early Alzheimer's disease. The data was featured during the "Lecanemab Subcutaneous Formulation in Early Alzheimer's Disease: Emerging Clinical Evidence and Practical Use Considerations" Developing Topics Session. 3) The office of Oregon's attorney general said it has withdrawn its court motion to delay Paramount's (PSKY) proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. (WBD), Reuters reports. In a statement to Reuters, Oregon Department of Justice said, "Paramount made it clear that they weren't going to comply with the investigative demand, and that they think they're above the law. We're not going to let them waste Oregonians' resources on these games... We've withdrawn the motion to consider our next steps." 4) Volkswagen (VWAGY) CEO Oliver Blume is facing issues with its overhaul after failing to win initial backing from the supervisory board, Christoph Rauwald of Bloomberg reports. Blume's plans for additional job cuts, plant closures in Germany, and a possible carve-out of the VW brand was rejected by 12 of the 19 supervisory board members. Without the board's support, the prospects for this restructuring plan are uncertain. 5) Meta's (META) new AI detection tool Muse Image has failed to identify some of its own AI-generated images after they were cropped, Hardik Vyas and Seana Davis of Reuters reports, citing an analysis by the journal.
